On most android phones the reason they make AOD plain black and white is because of the fact OLED actually switch off the individual pixels when they go black. For some reason apple decided to just dim the colours and hence the pixel doesn't turn off. I wish Apple would give you the option of straight black and white as well.

one thing to remember, is that if your phone is face down, or in your pocket, or your in a different room to you (last one only works with an Apple Watch), then your display turns off, only coming back on when its face up, and directly visible in some manor. So realistically over a day of average use I struggle to see most people draining any more than 2-3% extra for the small amount of time their phone is out, face up and in the same room as them.

of course if you didn't wanna fork over 400 for a bulky watch, then you may loose 5-6%, but even then my phone is either in my pocket or face down 98% of the time when not being actively used. So all in all this is a solid feature, and has great use cases for when you want to be aware of notifications coming in with minimal battery wastage

I turned mine off. Honestly never used it with Samsung. 🤷‍♂️ lol

I didn’t care about the always on display when Apple announced it but find myself using it more often than I thought. I’m not glued to my phone but to be able to see what notifications I received was pretty helpful.

I guess it will depend on the user. If you have it off you are most likely to constantly tap the screen to see notifications which wakes up the phone and the screen gets brighter. The always on display might prevent users from doing this and might cause the battery to drain at a very similar pace.

Thanks for doing this. Must have been so many hours of effort. Appreciate it.

I never thought about that feature as something I needed/wanted but since I got it, it’s my favourite thing about the 14 Pro. Using it all the time. Especially useful with good lock screen widgets.

Would love to see an AoD test with full colored image lockscreen and full black lockscreen to see how different the OLED panel being off for black screen changes how much benefit in battery people can potentially save.

I had my always on display on yesterday, I played music/Spotify all day at work. Watched YouTube, made couple phone calls. Facebooked, browsed the web . From 9:20am to 12am my phone was at 31% . Almost 15 hours. And that’s with always on display!

not an iPhone user yet, but have android phone with always on display - very useful feature. If I want to know the time - I just glance at my phone and that's it. No longer do I need to unlock or other ways start using the phone and get distracted by notifications to the point I even forget I wanted to check the damn time..

From 7:30 am to 5:30 pm i used my phone all day with always on, and I had about 56% battery left. With my iphone 13 pro max and the same amount of usage, I ended up with 48 % left. Its amazing how the iphone 14 pro max even with always on display on, has better battery than iphone 13 pro max

I love the always on. Doesn’t really seem to affect my battery. iPhone still has crazy battery life

Today when i woke up at the night the always on display was off. It was like it knew that I was sleaping. Really cool. And allso when I have it in my pocket it turns off. Cool and smart IOS system.

I don’t know if I’m just lucky or what, but I’ve had the best battery life out of this phone then I have on any phone I’ve ever had. I go to work and take classes at my university and hang out with my friends, often not getting home until 9 or even 10 pm after starting my day at 8 am. By the time I get home my 14 pro is usually only at 75-80 percent.

I love the always on display being on. I used it for the entire year with my 14 pro and I’m using it currently with my 15 Pro Max, I can’t stand when they always on display is off and every time I get a notification it just lights up super super bright.
