Courtney Baker was terrified when she went to a specialist during her pregnancy to confirm that her preborn daughter had Down syndrome, but those fears turned to sadness and anger as she listened to the doctor advise her to abort the baby girl she had already named.

If women’s reproductive rights are such a priority for advocates...why isn’t there more conversation around the fact that women with high-risk pregnancies can often find it difficult to receive unbiased care? Like actual care. not just pressure to abort. Where are the feminists on that?

How adorable. People seem to forget that downs or not, that’s still your child. That’s still the baby you’ve been carrying that you love regardless of if they have downs or not. Why would that love change just because their mental ability changed?

I love that she said “I don’t know what you mean by options”! When I was 19 & just had found out I was pregnant, at my actual doctors office (not a PP), the initial part was with a nurse & she kept telling me about my options & PP. I was fuming & said “Listen lady, the only option I have is to become the best mother I can possibly be.”

I’ve said the same thing when I found out. I was 21 years old when I found out my son had Down syndrome i was 25 weeks pregnant and they offered to terminate as well of course not. I could feel my baby moving and everything. Now I couldn’t imagine life without my amazing son.

I loved her unapologetic honesty. That will definitely help bring so much freedom for so many families.

How well I know the feeling of devastation when you learn that your "perfect", healthy baby _isn't._ Thankfully, we got the diagnosis _after_ our son was born. He'll be sixteen this weekend, is in high school, _and he loves his life._ I shudder to think of what our lives would be like without him...and his little brother (also with Down syndrome) whom we adopted nearly eleven years ago. Raising a child with a disability is not for everyone. I know that. But babies with this condition don't _have_ to be routinely aborted. Please, PLEASE give them a chance at life! And then if, as a parent, you know that you just aren't prepared to raise your child, you can let another family give them a loving home. *They will never despise or reject you for that choice the way a "typically-developing child" might.* _They likely won't even know!_ But if they are able to understand that their birth parents just weren't prepared to raise them, and if you choose to remain in their life, I promise you that you will be someone else for them to love.

Awesome story! I’m preparing for a talk tomorrow for the National Day of Remembrance for all the babies lost through abortion and I’m specifically focusing on all those with disabilities who have been targeted and discriminated against through abortion.
Your beautiful daughters face made my eyes well with tears of joy. The Down’s syndrome population just has a natural ability to warm hearts. Thank you dear sister in Christ for sharing your beautiful story and your beautiful daughter with the world. God bless you

My husband showed me this video this morning. I was not expecting to be so moved and touched! I literally broke down in tears!! This video and testimony was so beautiful and encouraging! I once had a fear about the “what if’s” in pregnancy. This proved and showed that there is never a “what if” reason to even think about a option!

I volunteered for this club called "Amigos" when I was in high school where you spent your lunch period with an assigned buddy from the special ed part of school. I was assigned a kid in a wheelchair who had downsyndrome and he was so funny, clever and joyful. A lot of times I would roll him into the foyer which had a large TV and played clips from the winter Olympics (this was a while ago) and he would get sooo excited watching it. I think back to him a lot and wonder how he's doing, he was a fantastic kid and so were the others in that club. I'm glad you decided to keep your daughter:)

Our daughter has Downs Syndrome and is 7. The counselor came in with the doctor and told us. Then she offered us an abortion 5 times before we could get out of there. My husband grabbed my hand and told her it was not an option and we left. We kept the doctor. Fortunately he never said another word about abortion. The counselor treated me like a battered woman each time we went back
My husband is not abusive but he was very angry at her. Bella is our 4th daughter. She completed our family. Downs kids are so loving and a lot of fun. May God bless your family. He has ours
