Have you ever thought about what would happen if you blew up the Institute and didn't return the serum to Virgil in Fallout 4, considering how much he needs it to become human again. I decided to test this. So, with the minutemen, I infiltrated the Institute, found the reactor, and planted explosives there. After that, I successfully teleported with Preston Garvey to a safe distance. I pressed the button and blew up the Institute, along with Virgil's last hope for a cure. Then I went straight to him, and here's what happened when he saw me.

I think they overlooked something in the Virgil storyline. If you bring him the serum, while he is still in the Glowing Sea, he can never leave. He won't be immune to radiation anymore, so he'll be trapped in his cave forever. He also won't have super strength and toughness, either, so he won't be able to fight the many beasts that roam the area.
