Atomic Shrimp Advent Calendar - 17th December 2024 - Roast Potatoes

This is part of a series of simple, sometimes-festive but always-cosy videos to take us all the way through December, up to Christmas Day.
(*Except this advent calendar series, which is not on Early Access, because advent calendars need to be a surprise!)

This video is an informal collab with my friend Babatunde in Nigeria - his related video is here:

Intro music is Christmas Village by Aaron Kenny - from the YouTube Audio Library

Zest - I zest an orange whenever I eat one and freeze the zest, same when I use a lemon, it's a great way of having zest on hand when you need it. Just a little tip that some people may find useful. Merry Christmas!

If you add a bit of Bicarb to your water when parboiling your potatoes it helps to break down the surface starch and means that you get a crispier outside once roasted. Just a tip I picked up many moons ago. Thanks for the vid!!

Your cackle after your lazy peeling impression was great

Glad you specified "culinary acid", I almost bought some nitric acid to use at Christmas.

These advent calendar videos are a treat on my return home from work. They take away the anxiety feeling and add a feel good factor to my evening. Thank you.

My mother used to make Christmas roasted potatoes when she was alive, and I've never been able to duplicate her recipe.
Mom was from English/ Irish/ Scottish descent, so your recipe, and you doing this, means the world to me.

The aromas in your kitchen must have been amazing when you did this. Thank you for sharing

My cousin loves advent calenders. She sent me one with chocolates. So I have been sending her yours each day. We had a great discussion of what constitutes a warming yummy treat after that freezing cold beach.

Hi Shrimp! Thanks for all the great daily festive content! Can we expect a break-down in the New Year (not what it sounds like) but a spreadsheet / chart of audience reaction to each vlog throughout December. Most liked, most watched, audience preference for 'type' of vlog. I am sure you can think up many more categories. Maybe you can somehow convert your findings in to a recipe! For £1 🤣

I also ‘deglaze’ the roast potato pan to ad to the gravy. It’s adds gorgeous crispy bits.

It never occurred to me to make roasted potatoes with such strong citrus flavors. Will give it a try 👍🏻

I think the lazy peeled potatoes skit alone deserves a like! 😂

I really love the positive creative videos you create. Small tip as not sure you know, if you roll the citrus fruit whole before you cut it up to juice, you will get more out of it as it breaks up the fibres and makes it easier to juice. Thanks for all the great content :-)

I like to get the roasting pan oiled and hot before adding the potatoes, that way they seal as they hit the hot surface and reduce the likelihood of sticking. They do look delicious, and good to see someone else enjoying chicken wings. One of the best value, and versatile meals in my eyes, and a regular at our house.

My favourite way of doing potatoes is by adding a bit of bicarbonate of soda to the water! No difference to the flavour but it makes the outside so fluffy. A bit of shaking the boiled potatoes in a colander and they become so so fluffy and excellent for roasting with all those crispy bits.

Ive also gotten into the habit of tossing potato peels in oil and seasoning and air frying for 7 mins to get a little snack while cooking. I love potatoes. Have you ever thought about going to Peru? They have so many beautiful varieties there, the most in the world.
