I just bought the Reignited Trilogy and since I never played the original, my only reaction to this intro was pretty much, "Well, that escalated quickly."

I always wondered who was recording them/reporting this story. Was it another Dragon one of a human like the Balloonists? Some other creature? Unfortunately Reignited didn't answer that mystery, but we got some kickass details instead of Gnasty just standing there. I seriously through Gnasty was psychic when I was little like.. "How does he know this?" But with the TV and couch added, it's just much more cohesive.

I don’t think the dragons calling him ugly is the only reason why Gnasty did that, he was banished first from Artisans for meddling with magic, and he found it hard to live by the dragons’ rules and customs, I also think that it was a sensitive trigger to them calling him ugly that made him freeze the dragons.
