George R. R. Martin sent a ridiculous letter to Jack Gleeson

Did you know that about Game of Thrones...

Jack Gleeson who played Joffrey Baratheon in the show, received a letter from author George R.R. Martin after the show aired, stating: "Congratulations on your marvelous performance. Everyone hates you!"

No that was genuine respect, he played the role so well that even a well liked member of the cast like him is widely despised for that character alone. It’s George’s universe & he played the character so well he congratulated him.

I hope to see Gleeson again at some point. Brilliant actor and seemingly really charming guy. I think though that he absolutely made the right move to step away from acting for a while. Everyone would've just seen him as Joffrey, whereas if he comes back now or in a few years, his next role will be taken on its own merits.

GAME OF THRONES would not have been the success it was without Jack Gleeson. He is an amazing actor and brilliant. Unfortunately the actors of the series that appear on the channels and in the interviews are only the second names of the series and not the cream of the crop (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Lena Headey, Aidan Gillen, Charles Dance, Sean Bean) that made this work amazing.

He played the role so perfectly well that everyone did hate his character. Its like how everyone associates Snape with Alan Rickman. Jack Gleeson is associated with Joffrey Baratheon.


Most people's opinions on actors are based on the most famous character they played.


This was George's way of saying "you pkayed Joffrey so good, everyone hate you(him)"

I m disappointed with Gendry Baratheon I tot he would do something but never tot he was shown so afraid and ended up loving arya even after not being so heroic!! That’s the only achievement of Gendry and also running to send raven to Dragon queen…
