How to Train Your Rats Agility - In Depth Guide!

Ok, so this was initially supposed to be part of my training basics video, but since it was already half the length of the rest of the video I decided to make it its own thing. Agility is one of my favorite things to work with rats, so I hope I did the process justice. Enjoy!

(Also full disclaimer, I've never done dog agility so its possible I got some of the pictures wrong - sorry, I really tried to be accurate!)

Have you ever taught a rat to perch? I was training mine paw and jump to hand. I was practicing jump to hand, then stuck my finger out to cue paw. Shs sat there confused for a moment then climbed onto my finger 😂

I have a training question! One of my rats is EXTREMELY food-motivated. She is eager to do tricks when I have a treat in-hand, but fading is difficult--instead of following my finger or the target, she ignores the command and instead fixates on the hand, pocket, or container where I keep the treats. Any tips on helping her focus on the trick I'm trying to train her, while still keeping treats near enough at hand that I can grab one when she successfully completes a trick?

I got two girls three weeks ago and they are super friendly and I'd love to start training them tricks! But one has very poor eyesight and hearing and while she trusts me now she likes going into dark places to feel safe and she can't see my hands or objects near her very well at all. Sometimes she bites (not hard enough to bleed) when she thinks I or something else is food, for example. Any tips on how to train her? I dont think she'll see hand motions and stuff like that very well and i dont wanna make her too confused when she already sometimes cant see her treats (she smells them of course but sometimes she misses while trying to bite a treat even if its laying on a flat surface and it takes her a lot of sniffing to find them if i put them in my hand for her) She also doesnt like being picked up with hands or being touched without warning (shes okay climbing on me and my hoodie though, its the grabbing thats uncomfortable for her) Any and all tips on how to handle her and play with her so that shes comfortable and not confused would be awesome!
