This video captures the event commemorating “The Birthplace of Silicon Valley” in Mt. View CA. This location was the site of Shockley Semiconductor Laboratories, the company which manufactured the first silicon devices in the valley. There are a series of speeches including one by the President of the IEEE, who unveiled a plaque which described the significance of the site. The keynote presentation was given by Professor James Gibbons of Stanford University. Prof. Gibbons worked for Shockley in 1957 and was responsible for transferring this silicon technology to Stanford University. He gives a detailed history of Shockley Labs, the companies which spun out of this pioneering company, and the impact they have had on our world.
