Priming is an adjunct used with IVM to improve the potential for a patient to achieve pregnancy. Priming utilizes low dose FSH several days before oocyte retrieval and/or uses HCG 36 to 38 hours before retrieval to maximize the potential of oocytes to mature in vitro.
After the decision is made to proceed with in vitro fertilization (IVF), you will meet with a registered nurse and will receive a medication log and a calendar outlining the treatment. In many cases, oral contraceptive pills (OCPs) will be prescribed in the cycle, prior to active treatment.
