In this Studio One tutorial, PreSonus software specialist Joe Gilder jumps into the comment section to answer a few questions including exploring a few ways to adjust levels across multiple songs using the Project Page in Studio One.

Mastering is certainly an entire art form in itself, however there are steps you can take to dial-in loudness levels for a more consistent sound over your entire album. Here are a few ways.

What questions do you have for Joe? He may answer in a future video!

Two of the best things about Studio One: Joe and Gregor!

Actually Joe. Your last bit helped me to understand how that all worked because I couldn't figure it out either. :)

14:26 - Here is that comment you were referring too. So you are making manual adjustments experimenting with which acceleration key ‘ command/option’ to use for a desired action. I often try searching for hidden menus that Studio one places in all sorts of context places. One such menus is found by pointing your visor right on top of the track strip length of each song. Click the right mouse button. In that menus are macros like actions that will make those adjustments fast and precise.
-Split Event at Cursor
-Reset Track Markers to Content
-Reset Pause

Thanks Joe! Always love your videos. Maybe why i love Studio One so much, i feel like a Human, creating music rather than a coder like i felt in my previous DAW. We are humans!

To that first comment, I use the Adptr Streamliner metering plugin at the very end of the chain and I will get different numbers too. Not totally massive (ie: NOT -8 LUFS on one and -14 LUFS on the other) but they will often be different.

I wonder what accounts for that

I laughed @14:28 when you said that. Never mind the arm chair critics 😂

I think the true peak meter on the project page is very accurate and it will tell you what your limiter isn't stopping which is very good to know IMO.

Making within-song changes (not, for example, leveling volume across songs) in Mastering rather than in Mixing raises the question of where you should make these changes. It seems to me that within-song changes not related to other songs (e.g., fade in/out, adding effects) are best done during mixing so you have a "true" track coming into mastering. However in several mastering videos, I've seen song-specific changes made which makes them different than the mixed version. Thanks much for any thoughts on this.

I wanted to know how do I set up my MPC live 2 with presonus to work in there as a controller/player

why does different plug ins, like say TRacks 5 suite, show different reading than loudness measurement on the project page and ADPTR Metric may also be different? Thanks or the great videos Joe. Always helpful

Why do you put the limiter on the Master section instead of the Post section? I normally don't put anything in the master section because I thought that affects every song. I only put "analyzer" plugins the Post section, i.e. SPAN----only to dbl-check the PP one, then Waves WLM loudness-to ck the PP LUFS results, also the ADPTR Metric A/B, for various stuff, incl reference tracks, and then finally, the izotope Tonal Balance Control plugin, to see if I need to make any final freg adjustments with a Q-8 plugin that I learned from Ian Shepherd, your mastering buddy!

I recently saw a video in which the bass player recorded his part and we could hear a count of voices that said "chorus...1 2 3 4... Verse 1 2 3 4". it’s really interesting... Can we have the same thing on the next versions of Studio ONe? Thank you

I keep my eye on the Integrated LUFs level of each song (and update that number after making changes), but I don’t see you checking that (only the momentary LUFs).

Hi Joe. Is there a way to change the brightness of the Color LED's of Faderport 16?

Is it possible to edit the mastering channel in stereo, center or side like in Wavelab, for example?

Your mastering engineer consulted you first before chopping that intro, right?

Hi Joe, how can one use a reference track in project page so that it will not go through the Master inserts?
