While many people think DIGITAL NOISE and FILM GRAIN are interchangeable they are not. You can't add noise to photos to emulate film grain, they are very different. Don't get them mixed up!

Film grain emulation aims to replicate the organic, textured look of analog film, where the film grain appears as a natural, random pattern caused by light-sensitive chemicals on film stock. In contrast, digital noise is an unwanted byproduct of high ISO settings in digital cameras, often appearing as harsh, pixelated speckles, particularly in low-light conditions. While emulating film grain adds character and a timeless aesthetic to images, digital noise is generally seen as distracting and unpleasing, artistic appeal of actual film grain.
You might not like my fil grain, but please don't call it noise!

A good thing about this is that most people uses digital devices and they wouldnt bat an eye if your grain emulation is fake or not, ofc an exception is IMAX, such are ones that are impossible
