FINALLY a good Linux tablet - Fydetab Duo

This is an open-source and hackable Linux tablet, powered by FydeOS a Chrome OS based operating system. What makes this tablet great is just how easy it is to flash other operating systems including Linux and Andriod. I device I have is a prototype and not final. The project is currently raising funds on Indiegogo.

The thing that excites me the most about projects like this is that in the current space of tablets, if you want something open and customizable, there's not a lot of options. You can go with an older surface and run Linux off of one of those, but other than that, you're stuck with Android or iOS. those OSes have made leaps and bounds in the productivity space, but they still feel very limited in what they can really do. I want more options in this space, and I love to see devices trying to corner that space.

I will be keeping an eye on Fydetab Duo. I bought a MS Surface a few years ago but have mostly switched to Linux with everything else. When she bites the dust, I will be looking for this project.

Thanks man, this is pretty slick and i think you're spot on this being the linux tablet wave starter. You can really tell they're optimizing for battery life here since that isn't a top-tier rockchip but this one still performs great and you get a _ton_ of battery life out of it.

We gotta appreciate the fact that RockChip is killing it this year with the RK3588 chip. The 3399 chip can't do alot on the 3D side of things without alot of compromises but this chip powering the tablet can run a good chunk of modern applications and can run them well.

Cool! I enjoy running Linux on old Laptops. A Chromebook is just a go between a smartphone and a laptop. This device can run Linux on it's own. Finally, we can just load the Distro we like and go for it. No errors or complex interfaces to learn. thanks

If it's optimised and can run apps without any issues smoothly that's going to be a big W . It's ARM using 5X less power and more battery life . Would be better replacement for chrome OS - But if Google develops something like this Pixeltab with Chrome OS on ARM - It would be much more interesting to see that competition

If this was just a bit cheaper I would highly consider picking it up. Running Linux on my Surface Pro is adequate but could use some optimization, and I can totally see the experience with this tablet surpassing it.

I look forward to your pen tests. Pressure sensitivity is hard to get working sometimes on devices like this.

Tecinally fydeos is based on Chromium os (which is fully open source and based on Gentoo GNU/LInux and which is what chrome os GNU/LInux is based on )
