Land Rover Series III 1974 Restoration

Had a lot on my plate dealing with some shifting around of my storage locations, work situation, car situation and what not.

Spent the last week working on thee new 88" project, which will in the end be the new travel rig. As for now I'm daily driving the 109" over winter here in Norway with down to -20 locally this week. And it's proving itself surprisingly good.

Would appreciate any feedback on what you'd like to see of the new project!

Thanks, K

I admire your attitude and desire to restore your Series llA L/R. Forty years ago I had a 1972 Series llA here in Canada with the overdrive and always wishes we had the safari roof. Trust you're aware of Maximus Ironthumber the YouTuber in England and his L/R project. I'm 77 and starting to creak like an old Land Rover.

Quite a satisfying situation, job, and lifetime this. I did this once, with a beetle. As long as you have the time, a lot of time, you can really enjoy all the moments. Today such a situation is a luxury.

I love your videos, just so transparent and honest. I admire your simplicity! My dad had a defender when I was a kid in Scotland back in the 70's, and I have always wanted to get one at some point, and you are encouraging me to go for it! These old "defenders" are the way vehicles should be, very simple and easy to work on. Cheers!

I had to laugh at your comment about the driver's door opening, my first land rover was a series 3, and the driver's door would swing open on a left hand bend. I really like you're relaxed delivery, and smooth music.

Martijn Doolard picked one of these up, a youtuber, same year, from Tuscany somewhere, from some count. His is smokin alot. But this ride is cool.

If you don't have one yet, I highly highly recommend investing in a headtorch. They are fairly inexpensive (€25-50) and are so useful you will question how you ever got by without one before.

Love this video, I always find your videos so calming. I can't wait to follow this journey!

Just discovered your channel. I have been a Land Rover person since the late 90s when I bought my 1959 SII 88”. My best limited advise is that if it is steel, galvanize it (chassis, bulkhead, breakfast, capping, seat box inserts, door frames, all the little supports and such) and don’t bother to paint it. I call plaint galvanizing “rover chrome.” I don’t know if there are galvanizing places in Norway. If you can’t galvanize it, spray it with rust preventative wax. Oh, and paint the axles and such with epoxy paint and keep up with it as maintenance. The next is that inexpensive pattern parts are often junk. Especially anything that is rubber (hoses, brake parts etc.). That being said, a new pattern wiring harness is a must The final thing is my theory of ownership which is that they are usually broken, but rarely broken down. You seem to have the right attitude and I am sure you will do well with this. PS my daily drivers are Toyota/lexus because the five rovers are for fun and wrenching time now days.

I hope the chassis is in good condition, but you won’t know until eh body is off. Enjoy it, and great work 👍🏻

I just bought a LR90 and I live in Cork. Didn’t expect to hear you speak about my home town in the video. Cool

Great project! IF i was you, I'd deffinetly paint it in LR light green or marine blue with the roof in white or limestone.
