To describe PSO2NGS, as it is now. Its a lobby fashion simulator with great action combat but with unrewarding events and content hence there never being much to do.

The community as you can tell is dedicated and I mean VERY dedicated. Not to mention getting into the game as a new player is never really that hard compared to some other MMOs. Despite how grim the state of the game may seem, the game wont die so easily.

Still makes me sad about what it could've been though 😭

I miss how great this game before NGS tbh
Really hope SEGA put a lot of work on it but it barely feels like there are any progress
There will be new area update but not sure what gonna happen to it next

I purposely stopped playing the game for almost 2 years bc I thought when I came back it would have way more content for me to enjoy. But no it’s the exact same game as I remember back in 2022 💀 how disappointing

The wasted potential is infuriating, dude. They literally had ps02 as a guide and still fumbled in what should have been the easiest part. Content. I can not believe they are trying, I refuse to believe so.

The story is such a mess too, because it just skips you way ahead because they go "oh grind is bad" but then stop you with gear score.... and make you grind for the new gear.

I LOVED base PSO2 and I enjoyed NGS at launch. I played up till Stia but the lack of updates, dungeons, and improvements in general killed my interest. I really hope they can turn it around...

I recently within the past year started playing NGS and the game has good bones, the world is beautiful, the character customization is top tier, and the combat feels good (to much emphasize on guard counters imo but good). the downsides theres very little meat on the bones very little meaningful content, and too little class depth for both PAs and talent trees. They removed Mags as a mechanic, removed Transformations into fallzspawn, removed just attacks, and there seemingly not introducing chance uniques like lavis cannon, frozen shot ect. It would be great if they made more instanced content like luciel, or the yellow triggers something with meat on its bones. Id love to see them do a remake of Forrest, mines, caves and ruins from OG pso but updated. Maybe bring the casino back from base game, to me it just seems like there's hundreds of ways to add more to the game but the devs are so into making new scratch tickets instead of making good content to put meat on NGS's great skeleton.

I already said this in a reply to someone too. But reminder NGS has been out almost 3 years now. It took the original PSO2 2 years to release Episode 3.

So it is completely fair to expect the game to have at least as good of a structure as base pso2 did up to Episode 3 at this point. (It doesn't, but it's fair to hold NGS to that expectation).

Update cadence for NGS is basically something worth spending some time on every two months and literally every in-between month is some event, which is more or less upkeep time for anyone needing work to keep up. Every event changes out the Limited Time Quests, which are basically experiments, which have varying success. When they actually ship out something permanent, it's always vastly more tuned based on how their experiments turned out.

Every six months is the target for more significant shifts and the next new roadmap. It takes a long time for feedback to affect the game's direction, meaning they're also planning pretty far in the future, and the game is unlikely to go anywhere suddenly. The weird thing is, the biggest pieces of content tend to take the least amount of time to explain, where all their cosmetic items and little events and punctuated boosts have loads of details to go over. They'll always take a lot longer to show off a few collab items than they do to show something like the Leciel Exploration quest which contributes to a lot of the fun time spent on the game from day to day and gets periodic updates.

Oddly this video has come out just before the next 6-month release with an entirely new area, (3 sectors in total) accompanied by new quest and story quest types, updates to Fighter and a new action element (Dark Blast/AIS-like power). The Headline about it is on the 31st. It's hard to say if they have a fully cohesive plan for the game's future or not yet, but June will give some evidence to one side or the other.

@2:30 How does your guess at how many players the game have count as "proof" of anything? You saw the 24 peak from steam and just assumed that means "10s of thousands" playing online at any give time?

It's as you say. The game still feels the same because in terms of actual gameplay nothing new has been added. The fun in playing the actual game instead of fashion or etc, is the playstyle and difficulty. Base PSO2 has different playstyles because the expansion of Photon Arts AND the levels of difficulty. They could've added the same formula for NGS because it's fun when you fail with a group and have to try again. An incentive to become stronger. Another thing is being able to craft weapons/armors and work towards it to be rewarded with power spiking. Overall the game has been stagnant in terms of gameplay, but it feels like they can revive the game state.

Bruh this dude compares everything to BIG MMORPGs, not everything is FFXIV, WWO, or etc. Maplestory is almost 20yrs old but it still popping. You need to reevaluate how you rate a living or dead MMO.

says 0 about the game, instead fixates on social media nonsense

Considering my pfp is of my PSO2 character, hopefully I can at least say something without getting jumped.

I have not logged into this game in months. It is actually a bad feeling that they can somehow design multiple new outfits for new scratch tickets WEEKLY but I have to beg and scream for something enjoyable to do. There is no reason for me to try and make my own fun when the only thing they can consistently bring is more cosmetics. And this is coming from someone that has spent THOUSANDS ON THIS GAME $120 every week for the new scratch to get what I wanted. I do not mind spending in games it doesn’t bother me. But I want to feel like I have more to do than log in and talk to my friends and take pictures. It is very obvious that they did not know what they wanted to do with New Genesis except make it look better and they basically admitted that last year.

It’s not even like they haven’t added ANY new content. But everything they added I have hated not because it was too casual or because it was too hard but because the shelf life of the content was shorter than the amount of time it required me to get what I wanted from it. I had to accept the game is simply not for me.

Not a Dead game, it is very much alive with a lot of people who make for very nice friends, but the game is not for everyone and that’s okay. And I say this whenever either game is brought up so people don’t have the wrong idea: if you are waiting for Blue Protocol, the end game of both games are roughly the same. The benefit of BP is the story is much longer and for me, more enjoyable and the world is actually very expansive and fun for me. But PSO2 has significantly better combat so if that’s your thing you probably won’t find it in BP.

I'm enjoying my time with pso2 classic and ngs. Been playing for a while, and definitely not stopping now

Game having large population is different with a game having a community. It does not matter if your game has millions of players, it will eventually die if it has no strong community. Pso2 new genesis may not have outstanding amounts of population, but it defenitely has a very solid and strong community. And for the record, onlineplayers between 2000 to 10000 active, is still decent.

Absolutely loved PSU. I also logged into NGS recently to see how it was doing and it's still sad to see the state it has been left in. Kind of a miracle it isn't dead yet.

This was a fair analysis of the game. I recently fully broke off of this game because of how little of the content available is actually important. It's not fun to chase gear anymore when the only thing you use that gear for is farming meseta or augment materials to make or buy stronger augments and then there's no real point in fighting bosses with that gear since they don't give you anything worthwhile unless you wanna farm for a rare AF weapon series that is slightly stronger overall than what you have.

I loved my time with PSO2 and NGS foe the most part, especially the former since it was my first mmo that I played from release to finish (though it was the global version) and has made me longtime friends that I will cherish forever. It even made me go play previous games in the series (love portable 2 Infinity the most) and games similar to PSO2 in combat mechanics and scope so I got into Monster Hunter and God Eater.

I just wish they'd add some new story content, and chapters. The base game itself is very short. The animation is very nice, the fighting and action is nice, just wish they'd add new chapters and stories
