Day 80: Onto the Great Basin / CDT Thru-hike 2024

I intend to hike the Continental Divide Trail (CDT) in 2024 and will vlog my experience. Follow me under "Old Man and the CDT."

I am Mike Current, 61-years-old, and retired military. I served for over 30 years in the US Army.

After retirement, I opened two small businesses. But after a few years, I sold both businesses because they were taking time away from pursuing personal goals, like hiking and sailing.

I hiked the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) in 2020 and Appalachian Trail (AT) in 2022. I vlogged (video journaled) my experiences under "Old Man and the PCT" and "Old Man and the AT", respectively.

I sailed around the Chesapeake Bay in my Tayana 37 sailboat over the summer of 2023 and vlogged the experience under the YouTube channel "Old Man and the Sea."

Thanks for the pictures of horned toads. I grew up with them as a kid in Texas. Haven’t seen one in 60 years. Looked like a good day.

Major landscape change! Love the horned toads--hope to finally see one someday! Plus, the garter snake, prairie dog, chipmunk!

Excellent! You found the secret warp tube in the game that cut that extra 2 miles off. We found it too!

The Great Basin. A place where I could happily live out the last years of my life.

Thank you for another great video. The Great Basin is not flat, just wonderful rolling hills. The animal was a prairie dog. They normally are in good sized colonies and live underground. The are a safety in numbers type of animal, and very shy. You are making really good progress. Thank you again for taking us along on your journey. ❤🙏🥾😊

Back in cow country with snakes and lizards. Hey, it would be cool to see some of your tent sites. You usually do your recaps inside your tent. Have you thought about doing some outside the tent so we can see where you're posting up for the night?

Loved the horned toad shots. Found a baby one at my front door several years back. It was tiny, about the size of my thumb nail. Lizards, cows, prairie dogs and snakes and deer. Hope you get antelope sightings too. Nice walk today. Thanks for taking us along.

Hi Mike. A lot of ups and downs. But I guess you shouldn't say its the "Last One". great pics of animals I have never seen. Hate to be caught in a rain storm out in the open like that. Hiking at a great pace. glad you made it to camp without getting rained on. Be Strong, Be Safe, and thanks for taking us on this Journey.

Energizer, you're really chugging right along. How much lower in elevation is this section and do you feel the difference in how much oxygen there is in the air?

Great video. Love to see the change in topography

Quick question…I also prefer to hike in pants and am always looking to improve my kit. What kind of pants does Mash hike in ? Thanks
