Recreating the Batman look in Davinci Resolve has some challenges

In the video, I take a look at a couple scenes from Matt Reeves' The Batman which was colorgraded by Dave Cole at Fotokem. If you listen to a bit of what they said was the process, you know this is a hard undertaking. From what I gathered, they filmed it very sharp and did an initial Colourgrade that was then filmed, converted to intermediate print, colorgraded again, and then printed... So in pursuit of recreating the look, we can either try to mimic the end result or copy some processes at different point.

I also take a hot minute to rebuild some elements...

i myself have tried to emulate the look of what happened in Dune 1&2, and The Batman. I think i succeeded in my efforts.

i personally wasn't trying to emulate the colors they achieved, i think that's reasonably achievable. What i wanted to achieve was other aspects especially the magic happening in the shadows of those films.

If you pay close attention to those films, to my eye at least, there seems to be a split tone that tints the shadows. However, the "tint" or color it becomes, isn't the traditional blue, or cyan or green...but, Grey.

I think the magic in those films are happening down below.

Nevertheless, in your image with the man's legs, you didn't try to match the low contrast of the image but opted to use scatter, which didn't work well i think.

anyways, i think the magic is in the Shadows.

I commend you for being bold to emulate the look. I'm also glad you have good quality robust tools to help you to from Cullen, Thatcher, VideoVillage, Mono and so on.
