7 things to look for in a tripod for photography.
Today I show you the main things to look for when buying a tripod for photography. If you make sure it has all these attributes, you'll get a much steadier platform to put your camera on and get better photos! I use one a lot for landscape photography and all the time for astrophotography and they really do help get a much better photograph! 👍

I have a Prima Photo Tripod PHKP001 it weighs 1.1 KG
It has a bag hook to increase stability
Big clips to extend the legs.
Robust.
Has a bubble level.
Around 20 pounds.
You can’t fault it for the price.

I switched from the Manfrotto to the Peak Design Travel Tripod partly for its weight and handling. The aluminum version is already fairly light and easy to handle.

Great video w clear and concise tips. I have a tripod for video, a hybrid CF tripod w a befree fluid head for travel, a Photography tripod w a 3 way geared head, a joby flexible minintripod and a small pedco ultra tripod(fits in the pocket). The last one is my goto tripod when going out for dinner while traveling and is always w me as a safety tripod in case I forget to bring one at a job.

I bought the tripod looking all the features mentioned in this video. After buying a cheap tripod, I did lots of research, reviews to buy a solid tripod. I looked at all the features you mentioned. Also I looked legs section and head section can be separable. (In My first tripod, head and legs can't be separated).

Really wonderful video. If you publish this video in last year, I didn't waste my time to do research to buy good one.

Great advice, Mike. I beat up my tripods so it is hard to spend much on them. Once I used one with a rope as a grappling hook to climb a sheer cliff. I would not do that with a carbon fiber but a cheapo, no problem. I throw them up boulders and drop them off bridges. Stay safe and sane.

Thanks for your video, what about the leg ends- rubber or spike or interchangeable?

I found a Gitzo 1227 carbon fibre tripod for £8 in a charity shop... Not modern but bigger and more rigid than my lovely 3LT Leo, certainly cheaper and better with the A7iii plus 24-105

Oh my, Mike. I just replaced my cheap tripod with a better one more suitable for traveling (compact & light). I had to do a biiig research, was choosing between manfrotto befree and mefoto backpacker. Chose the second, it's not that high even with the center column, but it's just 30cm and 1.1kg!

Tripods are one of those purchases that can really drive you mad. I have a few of them, but find that my go to is the Peak Design. The reason for this is that it is so portable and light. I have the carbon fiber one, which will set you back a little. It is like that saying that the best camera is the one you have with you. My Peak Design tripod is always with me due to its portability. Thanks for the Thursday upload, Mike. My days are back on track now. Good luck in the home search. Take care, brother.

I'd add the option to put the central column in a horizontal position. I've got a cheap one and I miss this feature.
Thanks for the video.

Lots of good info. A question about the bubble float. I use the Sony A7III which has a level that is visible on the screen. Is that a suitable replacement for a bubble float? Thanks!

First of all excellent tutorial! I have been looking for a tripod for my canon5dmark3 with my Tamron 24-70 lens which is a fairly heavy combination, but I don't want a heavy tripod which I know I'll be reluctant to carry in my long hikes. Given my camera and lens combination, I would need a sturdy and stable tripod, do you have any suggestions? Also, I couldn't help but notice your fitness tracker, is it the Garmin Vivo active? Thanks for the videos and keep up the good work

Peak design has them all especially the carbon fiber one. Great product although it is pricy a little.

Why isn't the tripod disappearing into the sand?

One thing I look for is someone else to lug my tripod around for me. I only have a very heavy and old tripod right now.
