Today, July third, marks the 10th International Plastic Bag Free Day.
Many countries, including South Korea, have been trying to get rid of plastic bags in favor of more eco-friendly options.

In 2008, after efforts by Spanish environmental group Rezero and other environmental groups from around the world, July third was designated International Plastic Bag Free Day.
On this day, various organizations and hundreds of citizens around the globe raise awareness on the environmental impact and hazards of single-use plastic bags, and promote more sustainable solutions.
With plastic waste a serious issue worldwide,... many countries have begun enforcing strict measures on the use of plastic bags,... including here in South Korea... where major supermarkets and shopping malls were banned from giving single-use plastic bags in April.
Thailand began to charge for plastic bags in some of its shopping malls and supermarkets from Wednesday.
The Maldives passed a resolution on Monday to prohibit the use of plastic bags and straws completely by 2025.
And Japan announced at the G20 Ministerial Meeting on Energy Transitions and Global Environment for Sustainable Growth their plan to charge for plastic bags used in retail stores starting from next April.
