The Senekhchyans are the 33rd family to receive a new apartment through Armenia Fund’s Gyumri Housing Project.

Like hundreds of families who lost their homes in the 1988 Spitak earthquake, the Senekhchyans have languished for decades in a so-called temporary hut. Also known as domiks, the ramshackle structures of this type are cramped, unsanitary hovels that lack even the most basic of amenities and comforts. Most don’t have kitchens, restrooms, or running water.

In 2018, the Senekhchyans received the surprise of their lives when representatives of Armenia Fund presented them with the keys to a new home — a bright, comfortable, and spacious apartment, fully renovated and furnished, and featuring a complement of amenities, including appliances. The Senekhchyans’ apartment was a gift from Armenia Fund benefactor Jean-Marie Atamian.

Armenia Fund has been providing such apartments to low-income families in Gyumri since 2014.
