Applying to a program now. Doing a career change in the direction my soul desires. Helping people with things I've dealt with.

I'm in AZ too. I just started my Master's of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with an Emphasis in Trauma at GCU. I was surprised it would take 3 yrs for the classes, practicum, and internships, then another 2 to go from my LAC to my LPC - but I want to help human trafficking and domestic violence survivors - it'll be worth it.

I recently just graduated in May and you are correct regarding the amount of work you need to do to be licensed after graduation. In the state of Minnesota where I am from you need 4, 000 hours of post-graduate experience. I think the behavioral health system is absolutely horrible for doing this. I understand that it is important to gain experience after graduating but I feel even 3500 hours is too much. I feel it is a scam in the sense they are just trying to get more money from pre-licensed therapists. I am currently trying to find a job where they will give me supervision hours for free as I suggest everyone trying to do depending on their situation. Thanks for the awesome video.

Just discovered your channel and I really enjoy your content! Your room seems so spacious and pretty, by the way. :-) With my ultimate goal to become a clinical psychologist with a specialty in forensics through a Psy.D, I've been told not to go to a Master's program because a lot of credits don't transfer.

I’m 55 and wanted to work for TalkSpace of BetterHelp as an online counselor. I just learned about the 3, 000 hours post-master’s degree that I’d have to do (I live in AZ, too) and it’s really putting me off. I pictured going to school from my house and working from my house. Two years of going out to a job somewhere sounds awful. Thanks for your insights. I think I’ll just go straight from stay-at-home mom to retired person. 😉

I didn't realize that the pay was so low in this field. I feel like I wasted my time. I'm starting my own counseling biz seeing private clients soon. And this paying for supervision crap is ridiculous.

I am doing a complete career change. I have my bachelors in nutrition and an associates in culinary arts. I am currently a caterer, but I really want to be a therapist for those with depression, anxiety, and trauma-based mental illness and want to implement cooking therapy. I am wanting to start school in 2025 because of financial reasons, but this video has helped

I'm in undergrad working toward a B.S. in Psyc and I'm not sure if I can convince myself to go for a M.S. in Counseling and possibly a concentration in Career Counseling

Wait what?? I am so glad to stumble upon this video, good lord i am planning to apply for masters in psychology (clinical or counselling) in a whole different country without knowing what happens after degree. Thank You so much.
Any suggestion for international students planning to do masters in Arizona (or other state if it benefits me) would mean world to me. Thanks.

🙏🏻Wow great video, in Illinois I’m taking MS in Counseling online with Capella... the MFCC degree I was told is uncommon here by the IL licensure dept, sadly it seams slightly easier.

You really got my mind working with this. I just paid for my first class. My mind is wondering now on what to do... I have couple days to cancel. Ugh this made me feel kinda depressed 😟 I’m 45 and I was going to take one class every semester hoped I could be a therapist in like 3ish years.

I was told I would be done with classes in 2 years and it would be about 9 months for hours... maybe that was full time hours in clinical hours ... I have a full time job. 🤔 Hmmm. I wish I didn’t have to work and could take 3 or more classes .... do you have a full time job? I wish I could take classes with people but I work. I’m outgoing and would love to have a group I could ask questions or straight to a live teacher 😐

My degree is in criminal justice which I got in 1997, not psychology so they suggest a few classes in the beginning of degree.

Hey, I hope your day is going well! I had a question.. say you received your master's and then your license to practice are there steps that you would need to take if you got licensed in counseling in one state but moved to another to practice. Do you have to take another state exam to get re-licensed to practice in another state? I hope that makes sense lol 😆 in the state of Oklahoma at least 6yrs ago it used to be 5, 000 hrs of internship it might be more now who knows but that is crazy hours when you already have to work full time ya know. Is doing an internship the same as doing a practicum?

As a CNA I noticed that your pillow is open on the end and not open facing inside. I never knew why they made us do that but of course it is so your pillow doesn't fall out on the floor. Thank you for the information by the way, as I am finshing my undergraduate in December considering counseling after graduation. I also live in Arizona and you answered some of my questions THANK YOU and I was only kidding about the pillow
