Thomas Sowell is a treasure to the world! I have a personal story that speaks to this. My grandfather arrived in Canada after the holocaust with 3 children under five, a sick wife, and 70 cents in his pocket. There was no welfare state, no government assistance programs, only local charities. Five years later he was purchasing his first home. When he went to work that day and told one of his Canadian born friends that he bought a house, his friend said, " how are you buying a house after only being here for 5 years with a family to feed and here I am single, living here my whole life, and still cannot afford a house?" My grandfather responded, "You bought that shiny new car last year, I bought a starter home this year. We all have our priorities."

I am a Christian and I don't hate Jewish people at all. I respect them and wish them peace in their homelands. The average, normal Christian, Budhist, Hindu and secular person does not hate Jews and I hope they know they have a lot of support and sympathy in these dark times.

As a Jewish American in Chicago, thank you sir for not just speaking on antisemitism, but hate in general. I love what you said at the beginning of the clip, “when we have a choice to hate self or others, hate others.” As a Jew, I can say I was taught that “many will hate you in your life, but never hate back.” I was never taught to hate back, and many Jews weren’t either. Thank you sir for sharing education throughout time.

Mr Sowell, is spot on. When qe compare ourselves to others who have started where we did and they were successful and we were not, it is much easier and way less painful to hate others rather than look inside ourselves.

In Cali for 60 yrs. I’ve seen the American dream achieved by many local merchants. A Vietnamese couple who ran a local bodega, open 7 days a week. They were so proud to introduce me to their son on Christmas break one year. He graduated from Stanford and worked for Microsoft….they were so proud. Same for a Korean couple who run a liquor store. They work 6 1/2 days a week, sent their children to college, and they went of to obtain good paying jobs.
America is the land of opportunity if you work HARD. People who collect unemployment and welfare will not achieve the American dream, and will hate others instead of themselves as Mr Sowell stated

As a child of Korean Immigrants, I can tell you that it's the work ethic that brings success. Father worked his restaurant kitchen every single day from 10AM to 10PM also going out and getting his own meats and sauces and utensils for the shop to save on delivery. Smelling liked charbroiled meat from head to toe day after day, the man just kept at it until our debts were gone, I finished university, and he finally got to retire... only to start another business during the pandemic to keep working toward a future.

Came here with pennies, no English, and lost everything during the LA Riots, but powered through it with help from his wife and sheer force of will.

People like Thomas Sowell allow me to keep my faith in humanity. Christopher Hitchens and the other eloquent thinkers are mostly gone now, but a few like Stephen Fry and Mr. Sowell still live to bring a light and facts into the warped reality that everyone lives in.
