I was so hoping the new era would be back to open full crew boats instead of these updated solo sail boats.

Sad. No more big boat racing. The allure of the Ocean Race, formerly The Whitbread the Volvo Ocean Race was the Open fully crewed boats. The IMOCA's are predominantly French offshore single handed boats built for the Vendee Globe and Transat Jacque Vabre. The Ocean Race needs its own class, not a concept borrowed from the Vendee.

Can the route for the Ocean Race actually be around the world and not a site seeing trip? The last routing up to the USA and then over to Scandinavia and back to the Med with several stops was pathetic compared to the old original races with Peter Blake and his contemporaries.

The imocas have nothing on the volvos. no where near as entertaining to watch and has limited the accessibility to sailors to compete in one of the most prestigious races in the world
