Alec Baldwin says he’s been told it’s ‘unlikely’ he'd face criminal charges

Baldwin said in an interview with George Stephanopoulos he has “some ideas” how a real bullet got onto the "Rust" set, but it’s “not for me to say” and “that’s for a criminal investigation to solve.”

It's called a rebounding hammer safety in this particular revolver... Not to be confused with a transfer bar safety, (where firing pins are not attached directly to the hammer). Even historically & accurately depicted modern replicas with firing pins attached to their hammers, they STILL have a rebounding hammer system. This is a ledge on the upper portion of the trigger mechanism that is only viewable if the side plate is removed. It prevents accidental discharge from a hammer drop by only allowing the hammer to complete its fall if the trigger is FULLY DEPRESSED at the same time. A cartridge CANNOT ignite, even if dropped, struck, hit on the back of the hammer or whatever the scenario. I KNOW, I have many. Again... That firing pin CANNOT even make contact with a primer unless the trigger is simultaneously, completely DEPRESSED. It is physically impossible. Unless this was an ACTUAL Colt Single Action Army from the 19th century (not an 1873 Uberti or Pietta single action army clone, which is most likely what it was). Unless the revolver was made before rebounding hammer safeties were built into these revolvers & their replicas (which I highly doubt) then this was IMPOSSIBLE. Even if it WAS an original 1873 Colt SAA, the first & second clicks in the hammer pull are both a form of a drop safety, so STILL... It just couldn't have happened. Even if he prematurely dropped the hammer, a cartridge could not have been struck unless the trigger was currently in the "fully pulled" position. This is the EXACT reason why this safety was made, so that accidentally dropping the hammer would NOT strike a live round.

In short, (I believe) he is lying. He absolutely 100% pulled the trigger at some point or the hammer could not have struck the primer on the cartridge. He probably had his finger resting on the trigger as he was in the process of pulling the hammer & did not realize it.

Alec Baldwin is responsible for the life taken. He broke 3 of the 4 rules of basic gun safety. His job on that set makes him not only responsible for the gun he was holding, but for the entire set and how it was operating. He deserves punishment and should be put in prison for his irresponsible acts of negligence at multiple levels. I’m disgusted that he will get away with this and that ABC is treating this interview like it is some kind of movie or entertainment. Shame on ABC and Alec Baldwin for conspiring to cover up this criminal negligence.

It's been widely acknowledged the scene didn't call for a gun. Alec lied to the American public, Alec had the gun in his hands and pulled the trigger.

And he shouldn't be! Blank guns are no longer needed. You can fill in the sounds and even smoke later. Guns used on sets should never even be capable of carrying a bullet nor have a bored out barrel.

Any prop coordinator and technician with half a brain on a movie set can make a fake gun out of cardboard, then you add the bullet sound effects in post production on a computer, it’s really not that difficult, this should’ve never happened
