When the United States votes for a new president this year - there will, as usual, be a candidate from each of the two biggest parties - and one of them will win. While the US is not officially a two party system - you have to go back a century and a half to find a president from another party. But as the parties choose their nominees - the divisions appear deeper than usual. This election season has seen the rise of the outsider. In Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders - both parties have a candidate who appear to act as an antidote to the American centre. But is the US political system ready for something different from the status quo? In just a moment I'll be joined by Jill Stein - a US presidential candidate who says that American democracy is on 'life support,' but first, today's newsmaker, is the two-party system - as we ask if it's failing Americans...

Yes... the two-party system is responsible for much of the problem with US democracy.

Here's a suggestion: For a start, adopt the French model for presidential election. Have 2 rounds. The second round being the 2 top candidates from round 1.
