In a panel discussion with the South China Morning Post on Sunday, Hong Kong’s Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development Edward Yau Tang-wah said investors are not pulling out of the city, and American business dealings with Hong Kong on a practical level should continue, regardless of the US-China trade war. Yau was joined by Aron Harilela, chairman of Hong Kong’s largest business group, and Tara Joseph, president of the American Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong.

I don't think it is unknown how the tariffs will affect the average citizen. I think the more relevant question, is will the companies step up for the working lower & middle classes. Diversification is the key here to overcome a specific tariff. Switching the concentration of productivity, through adding product diversification, and spectrum broadening through product outreach to new regions are all key points of factor. It is important to realize that free trade is not what has been practiced across the board thus far. GREAT DISCUSSION!!

US has no right to boycott hk in trade war pursuant to its US—Hong Kong policy act which allows the United States to continue to treat Hong Kong separately from China for matters concerning trade export and economics control after the 1997 handover.
