Head Scratching Star Wars Special Edition Changes

Everyone knows about the big changes that George Lucas made to the original Star Wars trilogy with the Special Edition (and continued to tweak until he sold Lucasfilm to Disney) like Han no longer shooting first and adding in the deleted Jabba the Hutt scene.

But there were also some subtle changes that really make no sense at all.

Yeah, I'd prefer the original lines as well, honestly

It wasn't 'who shot first", it was "who shot ONLY." Lucas only changed the scene because he thought it made Han come across as a cold blooded killer, failing to realize that Han worked for one of the most notorious gangsters in the whole galaxy. Before Luke and Obi-Wan met Han, the backstory could've had Han do terrible things as a smuggler. After all, Han's been to one side of the galaxy to the other, and he's seen a lot of strange things, so who knows what Han did in order to survive.

Why would a seasoned gunslinging outlaw, with a gun pointed at him, wait until the other guy shoots?

I hate in empire strikes back when they changed a pissed off Darth Vader spitting "bring me my ship" to a pompous lord vader saying "Alert my star destroyer and have them prepare for my arrival."

The change that gets me, in Return of the Jedi in the Rancor scene, in the theatrical release I saw there was a scene where Luke lept to the grate above the pit and a couple of Jawas smash his fingers so he falls back down.

Placing Hayden Christiansen in the ending of Return of The Jedi Special Edition still bugs the Bajeebers out of Me.😮

George is the epitome of not leaving things be.

Maybe his ex-wife wrote those lines. George became obsessed with removing her contributions as lead editor from the movies.

I thought I was the only one who remembered Luke saying "Lucky you don't taste very good"😂 never understood why such a simple line was changed. Sounded perfect 👌 and funny.

Also, in the original ESB, when Vader is talking to his subordinates after the lightsaber duel, he says, "Bring my shuttle." In the SE, he says, "Alert my star destroyer to prepare for my arrival."
Random. 🤷‍♂️

Yes! You also need to include, "Alert my Stardestroyer to prepare for my arrival." and was said matter-of-factly. This line was originally, "Bring my shuttle!" and you could tell Vader was TICKED when he said it!

Honestly, its some form of mad genius. Hes just kinda crazy. The success of the OT was his loved ones piecing together his insane ramblings that somehow made sense.

Like the genius was wrapped insane the crazy, and they found it.

By the time of the prequels, those folks werent around as much and he was surrounded by yesmen, so the genius was less refined, and the crazy really shone through

This is the reason for so many Mandela effects. 😂❤

The changed line of Vader in Empire.

Original: “Bring my shuttle”

Redub: “Alert my star destroyer to prepare for my arrival.”

Just stupid.

The original lines were better for sure. The second one was changed to not offend droids.

Yup, yub, yub forever is right! I want the damn Ewok song back. That song made the top 10 in the 80s. Why George?! Why did you mess with perfection?!

That Line on Dahobah is one of my favorite, and it drives me crazy that it is gone.

I like the special edition of what Han said better. He doesn't need to be force sensitive and if he is he doesn't need this scene to prove it. It's just simply funnier with the special edition version.

Although the "You're lucky you don't taste very good." Is definitely better and shouldn't have been changed.
