I had a friend who was a professional dog trainer. Her favorite breed was the giant schnauzer. She had two of them at the same time. She loved dogs that were very hard to train. RIP, Kim, I really miss you.

100% agree with #1 which is what I said under your Top.3 reasons for getting this dog - how stubborn and strong-willed they are. I once had a client who had a Schnoodle, which was even worse because of the poodle mix with a schnauzer. The dog looked horrible because they couldn't take him to a groomer because they babied him and he became aggressive. As their dog walker, I was the only one he trusted and I actually was able to convince a friend who was a groomer to at least shave off all the mats and long hair that he had with me holding him and having him muzzled. It took us an hour and a 1/2 just to do that but he looked amazing and felt so much better. I was the only one who could ever clip his nails as well because he knew I was in charge and he trusted me.

I love our gaint! He picks up commands very quickly! He is protective when needed but hes a very sweet boy. I groom him myself and it does take alot to groom but its worth it.

Damn. Grooming costs in that range (way more than I spent on my own hair, incidentally) on top of food, doggy health insurance, toys, dog tax and possibly dog school is really brutal.
I wonder, how many people seriously underestimate just how expensive their cute little puppy ends up being in the end.

We have one and love him. Most obedient dog we ever had and he's an excellent guardian whilst looking like a fluff monster. BUT, we got him after having had German shepherds and Doberman in the past. He's definitely stubborn and not a dog for inexperienced owners ❤

You are wonderful to inform everyone about the breeds...the pros and cons. Bless You.

Great video! Can you maybe do a longer video about the breed?

Our Riesenschnauzer-girl challenges me every day. She is the most loving, forgiving and protective dog for our kids. But at the same time she reflects your mental state in training. If you perform poorly; she does. And vise versa.

Let me tell you since we got her I am not taking s*ht from anyone!
I adore her for that life lesson!

I own a schnauzer and man the grooming is a serious thing. My family got a schnauzer as my dad always loved them and had a few plus they dont shed all over. Great dogs, but stubborn and needing loads of hair care

I would love your thoughts on the Bouvier. I had a female who was an incredible guardian with great intuition. Her growl alone deterred more than one prowler from remaining on our property.

Thank you for giving accurate grooming cost estimations giant schnauzers are a ton of work for a groomer

100% right! I have a big girl GS . She is 10 now and just starting to relax a bit! 😅 One hour swimming in the river, another hour good walk and and some time to run free every day! Best dog you will ever have if you are ready to put in the time and effort. I learned to groom her, which is not too difficult if well trained.

Why don’t they ever put giant schnauzer on the same list as rotties, corsos and Dobys ? Ive been trying to figure it out

Can you do a video or short on “beginner” friendly dogs ? Wasn’t able to have dogs growing up. Or training tips for new dog owners ?

I have a 1.5 year old female Giant and she is INSANELY smart! Can’t even begin to describe her in one sentence because she’s a lot of things though 😂 I’ve had other dogs in the past but NONE like this one.. owning one of these has to be mad similar to owning a border collie (minus the collie’s hair type) frfr. But both breeds attempt to cross you up with their intelligence every day of there lives loool

Thanks for the great advice! Too many good dogs end up in shelters because their owners did not do their homework to learn about the breeds.

I have a giant Schnauzer but he is as sweet and gentle as he can be. I'm lucky because he is a rescue and I wanted to help him. He gets along fine with my other 3 rescues.
He gets along with my cats also, I only have to keep an eye on him because he may shift to predator mode sometimes but he is not aggressive as some police Schanuzers I've seen here on videos.

I have a giant schnauzer at work (dog daycare & boarding facility). She is a powerful girl, a little stubborn, but loves her people (thankfully I'm considered one of her people). That being said, we have a groomer for our clients. We only charge $65 for a full groom. Midwest

The only experience I've had with Giant schnauzers are from a neighbor long ago. She had two. She also had an electrified fence and a front screen door open all day, every day. Any time anyone walked by the front yard, those dumb dogs would start barking like crazy, which would set off my neighbor something awful. She would start shouting, "SHUT! UP! SHUT UP SHUT UP SHUT UP!!!" This would go on many times a day. You knew when they were in the backyard because they would constantly run into the electrified fence and bark, which would then set off my neighbor, who would then start yelling, etc. All. Day. Every day. So I've never, ever liked schnauzers, giant or not.
