1. You need to deposit in a bank before you can withdraw. Using LinkedIn is the same. You need to invest in this fabulous platform before the need to use it arises.
2. A large portion of recruitment today happens via LinkedIn. Therefore, it is important for you to be active/visible there.
3. Best of employees are never in the market; they aren’t actively searching for a job. Their profile speaks for itself. Also, they usually get picked up by esteemed referrals.
5. The next important thing is “About” section – this should clearly reflect what you bring to the table and also how will people benefit should they hire/connect with you.
6. Use the "Featured" section to show case the highlights of what you do and also any posts that have received an overwhelming response (likes & comments) from people.
7. "Skills" and "Industry knowledge" section should always be kept up to date. It should clearly reflect your expertise area.
8. Do ask people you’ve worked with for a recommendation. Should you be requesting a recommendation from a Sr. executive, prefer sending them a draft to save their time. It is important to write recommendations for others too and not appear to be a taker.
9. Visit the “Jobs” section periodically and weigh your own skills vis-à-vis the demand in the market for your role/profile.
10. Leverage LinkedIn Learning to up-skill & cross-skill.
