Very underrated president. Although he maybe wasn't as charismatic as Kennedy, he still was able to achieve things in short time for the american society John F. was never able to in all his years as the president before. The only scar on his career was the vietnam war (even it wasn't all his fault alone), where he acted pretty unfortunate. But domesticwise he was the best president till today. He changed and developed America into the state we know today. He did a lot for the society in his country, and had an interesting personality. Even he did mistakes, he still had courage and had a strong character. He made his own decisions, and never was afraid of anybody. He also knew pretty well how to play politics, especially with his opponents. In my eyes he was a way better hero and president than Kennedy was. He just didn't replaced Kennedy well, but he also was able to make his own way as a president.

When the Kennedys offered LBJ the VP spot on the 1960 ticket, they never thought he would actually accept. It was meant only as a token offer to try to "mend fences" with him after the bitter rivalry between the two men for the presidential nomination. RFK, whose dislike for LBJ is widely known and written about, was particularly horrified when Johnson accepted.
