Meet John Tyler, the 10th President of the United States. In 1841, Tyler became the first Vice President to assume the presidency following the death of President William Henry Harrison, setting a precedent that became the norm in such circumstances. Tyler's presidency marked the first time in U.S. history that a Vice President had to assume the presidency due to the death of a president, serving without a Vice President for his entire term.

There was a debate over what to call Tyler after he assumed the presidency. While some argued that he should be referred to as "Acting President" or "Vice President Acting as President," Tyler insisted on being recognized as the President, setting a crucial precedent for future successions.

Beyond politics, Tyler had 15 children, the most of any U.S. president. His second wife, Julia Gardiner Tyler, was 30 years younger than him, and they had seven children together. After his presidency, Tyler continued to be involved in public service, representing the Confederate States of America in Europe during the Civil War, leaving a lasting impact on American history. John Tyler is a president whose legacy continues to be remembered and studied today.
