Oh boy! A new Bobby Watson composition I haven't heard yet. Yeah the messengers had a great period when Bobby Watson was contributing a lot of originals- I assume he was the musical director at the time although James Williams and Charles Fambrough also were making substantial contributions.

It's written by the great alto sax player and composer, Bobby Watson (not Wynton as credited). As well as Wheel Within A Wheel he wrote the beautiful tunes, In Case You Missed It (aka Fuller Love) and Time Will Tell that were staples of the Messenger's repertoire during his tenure. I highly recommend any of the Jazz Messenger's albums from this period especially, Album Of The Year, Keystone 3, Gypsy Folk Tales & (The Big Band) Live At Montreux And Northsea. Also Bobby's solo albums, All Because Of You is my all time favourite.

They are: Winton Marsalis (trumpet), Bobby Watson (Alto Sax), Billy Pierce (Sax), Jimmy Williams (Piano), Charles Fambrough (Bass) and Art Blakey (drums), Recorded the 11/10/80, Ft.Lauderdale, Fla.
And yes, Taylor, there's the bit to salute Coltrane.
Thanks for uploading it, Dariobd.

Hey folks, Clifford Saffer and company know exactly what they are talking about. I'm from St. Louis Missouri, Bobby is from Kansas City, MO. I've met Bobby, I am a piano player. And I've met Bu. Bobby Watson was the ish when he was 26 years old and music director of the Jazz messengers. And I know Charles Fambrough from his days with McCoy Tyner. These cats are other worldly, trust me!

Now, if you want proof of what I attest here, Google "Heckle and Jekyll", with Bobby, Victor Lewis and Horizon. I rest my case and I love you all!

I'm thinking this may have been recorded at Bubba's, a jazz club in Ft. Lauderdale that unfortunately closed in the the early 80s, shortly before I moved there...

Alternatively, there is wonderful Gatton recording of this song to check out with Watson, Hargrove, Fambrough and other greats
