Apple MacBook Pro M3 Pro versus RTX 4080 Blender Render Comparison

I compared my M3 Pro with my other computers ( m1 air, m1 pro and RTX 4080 DESKTOP) . Clasroom scene, default resolution, GPU render, 1920x1080 and denoise open. please test and share your results!
( I am aware that this is not a scientific and detailed test. Rather, I was curious about the comparison and there was no such comparison at that time, so I wanted to share it. Apple M3 Pro is a very nice computer and overall I am very satisfied. But I wanted to draw attention to the difference between desktop and laptop for designers who will deal with 3D. )

Did you turn on Metal RT and are you using Blender 4? M3 Max will be about 20 seconds then, I think it's quite impressive considering those chips just launched and raytracing might not be fully optimized.

The M3 Pro has 150 GB/s of memory bandwidth, which is probably a huge bottleneck. You are forced to go for a M3 Max with 300 GB/s if you want actual performance.

How many GBs of RAM is sufficient for using Blender on Macbook M3 Pro?

just do light work on the go on a macbook and render at home on a desktop rtx

My new G16 laptop with the 4090 gets 12.7 second. My M3 max 40 core 20:36. They are close ! I expected much more difference. In Webgl more basic stuff the difference is bigger (G16 is 2.5 times faster on shadertoy)

Comparing laptops to desktops of course desktop is faster but working on the road vs stuck at the office

Interesting results.

So an RTX 4080 is 5 times as fast as Mac.

That means if a Blender animation takes 36 minutes on 4080, it would take 3 hours on the Mac.

Wow! RTX 4080 and 4090 are the tools used by serious Digital Artists.

M3 Max. 16 Core / 40GPU. 128GB. RT + experimental: 0:23.99 EDIT: Disable CPU Just GPU: 0:20.25. Desktop vs Laptop...

This is biased towards the Nvidia chip, because the M3 Max chip was left out on purpose. Try again pitting the M3 MAX chip (it’s a Mac laptop) against the Pc with Nvidia chip mentioned in this video (It’s not a laptop, it’s a desktop, heavy and loud). The Apple laptop defeats the Pc-Nvidia in most tasks, and comes pretty close in the rest. Only in heavy-duty gaming the Pc-Nvidia beats clearly the new Apple chip. Conclusion. Buy the Pc-Nvidia if you are a games. If you are a content creator now you can work with a Mac. This new Mac chip is a deal-breaker.

If you want a rendering machine, I suggest buy multiple mac minis. You'll see the buck to effeciency right there. Low thermals too.
