DON’T make this watch buying mistake!

Hi Guys,

This is something that's been on my mind for a while. It's a simple idea, but in short, I was to support the idea of buying the watches you want to buy rather than trying to impress anyone. Especially in this world of social media and sharing watch photos.

This is what I think is the biggest watch buying or watch collecting mistake.
BUY WHAT YOU WANT!

Don’t buy to impress is SO TRUE. I once met a gentleman on a train ride, and I noticed he wore a Lange & Söhne. So I asked him and guessed if it was maybe Saxonia. He laughed and said no it was ‘only’ a 1815, however it was in platinum. But he added that it was a gift from his parents in law. I congratulated him with such amazing marriage and in-laws. Then he added what was for me the kicker, he had worn the watch already for more than 10 years and in all this time I was the first person who recognized and commented on his Lange & Söhne watch. Ergo: BUY FOR YOURSELF, NOT FOR THE GUY ON THE FORUM.

Slow clap 👏🏻 on the creativity behind that advert placement. Nicely done Adrian 👌🏻

This is the reason why I follow you and not other clowns who criticize watch brands and use their "funny faces" for plays. Keep up the good work, mate!

I rarely comment on videos, but I love this one, Adrian!
I recently bought a vintage ultra thin hand wound Cartier Santos. 19 out of 20 people tell me it is way too small, only for women, it looks like a Casio etc. It really made me believe I bought the wrong watch and it got into my head.
But the thing is: I absolutely adore this watch and could not find it more timeless, cooler and classier...!
It is all about me and my passion, no one else. That’s why we do all this and spend our hard earned money.
Thanks for this awesome vid! 🙂

I'll never again buy a watch without trying it on. I mean an expensive watch. You just never know how you'll feel until it's on your wrist.
Even so, I'm surprised how over time a watch can grow on you and you feel connected. Other times, the watch for me just ends up in it's box. Interesting how the emotional reaction to your watch can change over time. Like a relationship in some way, even though it's only an inanimate object at the end of the day.

IDGuy did a video on a something similar to this recently- something like "Why you aren't satisfied with your watch purchase". Definitely an interesting topic.

This is one of the best messages about watch enthusiasts I have ever seen/heard. Keep the great videos coming, you have a fan right here 🙋‍♂️

Best sound advice ever given on any watch channel. All I’ve ever done . I listen, but buy what I want .

Love your comment of "it's not the value of the watch that determines your level of enthusiasm" or something like that....spot on when you're a true aficionado!!!

Worst type of comment on a new watch post?
"Good luck when you try to sell that one"

I bought my Tudor BB58 recently because I fell in love with how it looks and how it makes me feel. I don't really care what anyone else thinks. The love of a certain watch is so subjective, so all I can say is buy what you like and what connects with

I always give myself three months before buying a watch. If my desire for the watch is as high as it was three months ago, then it is a safe buy. Does not apply for Rolex SS though. I would snap some of those up without a second thought.

Adrian - you are such a decent bloke. It’s nice to hear your thoughts and attitude on the world of watches.

That’s the best thing about getting older. Ok I’m only 34 but I really don’t care what other people think. Their opinion means jack to me and once you start to think like that you really do begin to enjoy life a lot more. The next generation is really screwed as all they seek is attention, likes and shares thanks to social media.

Thanks, Adrian! My grail watch (for now) is the Tissot Gentleman Powematic 80 Silicium. It will be my first automatic watch.

This is my favourite watch video. And not only by Bark & Jack, it is my favourite video regarding watches, period. The idea that we have to please others is very much related to social media and this need for validation stems from that. A lot of people will get lost along the watch journey because they will spend money they don’t have on watches they don’t really want. It’s important to create your own path and buy what you love. Make your own destination, buy pieces that spark joy when you put them on. I once told a friend who was debating selling a watch from his collection but didn’t know which: “don’t sell the watch you wear the least, sell the watch that sparks the least joy.” The same goes for purchasing a watch: buy a watch that makes you feel something when it’s on your wrist.

There's that warm fuzzy feeling you get when you're buying something for yourself, that you like and adore.

Adrian,
Another brilliant video. I don’t want to gush over your presentation, but it is probably the best I have seen in months.

I am a watch geek with a limited budget. That means my watches have to please me because they will never impress anyone. It doesn’t stop me from enjoying this...hobby? Addiction? Mania?

Well done, mate

You’re absolutely brilliant mate. But the integration of the “skill share” add is genius. Keep it going, love the content, love the laid back conversation style. Great channel. Cheers

Definitely buy what you like, but don’t only like what you buy.
