The Struggle is Real — Porcelain Bloopers and Fails

For the past two weeks I've been throwing predominantly with porcelain for the first time in six years. It's been a struggle especially considering the stoneware I used previously was bullet proof and could be thrown recklessly and very thinly. This just isn’t the case with this porcelain, or more likely, I simply don’t have enough practice with it yet.

Tomorrow I'll be uploading a more serious video with porcelain, showing how I make my usual lidded jars from the stuff with all sorts of insights along the way.

That deep sigh he did is so relatable when I see how much work any teachers give me on a Friday 😭😭

That sigh is something we can all relate too. And total exasperation and frustration that goes with it.

Why is it so interesting to see someone lose their mind over in utter silence.

The one where you banged the edge of the plate against the measuring thingy, wow, I really felt that moment where you paused.
Thats what happens to me all the time, with wet nailpolish, wet paintings, food...banging into something, even though there is literally enough space.

I mean, at least it looks pretty cool when the pots fold 🤷‍♂️

The silent stair for the bowl is so real. One time I finished making an Urn, only to swipe it with a needle tool. Has to be the quietest I’ve ever been in my entire life. 😂

Just leaving another comment here to say that these ‘Shorts’ are just a small portion of the video content I release on YouTube. Alongside these quick videos I post much longer, narrated, more in-depth films about the process. In actuality these failures make up but a snippet of my practice, so if you would like to watch more, please head over to my profile and look for my ‘proper’ videos. Thanks for watching!

Hey Florian! Just wanted to say thank you for everything you do in regards to recording and editing and posting and such. Your videos have helped me progress so much further than I could have really ever expected to in such a short amount of time and I truly hope to have an apprenticeship with you one day. Again, thanks for everything:)

I took a class for pottery, and my instructor was burned out from all the other students who weren't patient with it. Which, okay fair. But she started taking her frustration out on us, which I think resulted in all of us dropping the class.
I admire your dedication and perseverance in your craft, friend. Keep making your beautiful works, they're amazing.

Its kinda funny seeing him destroy his failed creations while he is pissed of at them being failed

I love how one second they're beautifully crafting a delicate porcelain dish, a gorgeous piece, then the next they just freaking smash it with the force of their monkey ancestor's primal rage because it's porcelain clay

You have no idea how happy that made me. My pottery experiance looks like that about 25% of the time.
