They said she did have a mutated version of the fungus, thus we can deduce that either the mutated fungus she has attacked the outbreak fungus or that one can not have both fungi at the time, if Ellie’s fungus behaves in a similar way, biting others rather than making them into zombies would make the immune.

maybe since her immunity is just being infected with a different cordyceps that wards off the zombie kind, it makes the people she bites immune but they wont know they’re immune because no one knows ellie is immune
