I left the big city of Toronto to move onto 40-acres of Canadian wilderness with a magical river. I am building an off-grid homestead with multiple log cabins and structures from the timber on the land.

To all my subscribers, STRENGTH AND HONOUR! 🫡🤝⚡️🐺🌲

SIF, THOR'S WIFE...If you want to increase her survival chances, you MUST remove 3/4 of her leaves! The problem is when you dug her up, you removed a lot of her roots. She can no longer provide enough water to support the amount of leaves she has, so, remove bottom leaves! It's better to remove the older ones, and keep the newer ones at the top of the tree! Water every day for the first week, then every 2 or 3 days for the next 3 weeks. Water deep to get deep roots otherwise you encourage surface roots. Also, plant at the depth she originally grew at. Then, mulch around tree (retains water and discourages weeds) being careful to leave a few inches of NO mulch around tree. Mulching up against the bark makes it easy for bugs to get under bark which will kill the tree.
CONGRATULATIONS on 100, 000! from one of the first 100! OOGA BOOGA!

WINTER IS COMING! Building a barn after the cabin will be crucial for winter! Storing firewood and having a proper tool section will be perfect to round off the year!

28:40 Hi James. I inspect roofs for a living in Ontario. You have installed the wrong type of metal flashing and your solution is temporary. You installed a metal "cap" flashing when you need a simple metal flashing tucked underneath the roof panel. This makes your panel cuts crucial as that will be the finished look (same as the bottom of the roof). Do this and you never have to worry about your roof. You're 98% done. Not sure if you've considered insulating the underside of your roof but you'll need to. Ooga booga.

James, I live on land in the PNW. I have found that a No Trespassing sign at the head of my long gravel driveway, along with a trail camera placed high in a tree does wonders not only keeping people off my land, but also from stealing mail out of my country road mailbox.

The river bend would be an amazing place to build but I fear that rivers like to change direction and could take out your cabin in a huge storm. Love your work either way!

Hi James, a tip that might help preserve your ice a little longer in your new Yeti ice box. If you use ice cubes they melt and the water makes your food wet and soggy. Try freezing 2L bottles of water and put these in your ice box, the ice last longer and one melted the bottles keep water off your food, no need to drain the ice box either.

I noticed all the bark off cuts at the saw mill. Take those and store them until you get a wood chipper and use it to make mulch for future vegetable patches or add to tracks or paths to keep off the mud etc

With all that rain, it wld b great to have a rain catchment on back side of building.

The Ballad of James Alofs

From the big city life to the wild frontier,
James Alofs set sail, his mission was clear.
A Toronto-born lad with a dream in his heart,
To build a homestead and make a fresh start.

Ten years in L.A. and Beijing's grand scene,
A fish out of water, in the wild he’s been.
But with camping trips and MBA in hand,
He’s ready to conquer this untamed land.

Oh, James Alofs, steadfast and strong,
In the wilds of Canada, where he belongs.
With logs and dreams, he’ll builds anew,
Guardian of Thor’s Oak, his vision is true.

With the butt and pass, his cabin will rise,
A sleeping loft and steel roof 'neath the skies.
No milling or notching, just chinking the gaps,
With the wisdom he gained from the builder's maps.

He dreams of ten children, an Irish Wolfhound,
In streams he will bathe, winter’s ice all around.
On steak, Cherries and Berries, he thrives,
With Gundabad’s glorious ATV, his spirit revives.

With Strength and Honor as his guiding creed,
And Ooga Booga for a laugh indeed,
James marches forth with a hearty cheer,
In the wilderness vast, he shows no fear.

A Roman heart, with Norse gods in his soul,
In his Wolfsmilk clothes, he'll reach his goal.
Though his tent caught fire, his spirit stayed free,
For nothing can stop this homesteading spree.

So raise a glass to James, the off-grid knight,
In the wilderness vast, he’ll shine his light.
With strength and honor, he’ll build his domain,
In the heart of Wild Homestead, forever he'll reign.
