Because dentists wanna charge a fortune for oral healthcare. Straight teeth are better for your oral health. Getting them fixed should not be considered cosmetic, but preventative.

I say more power to her. It looks like she did a great job of removing them, and good on her for wanting to take care of her teeth. 11 years is ridiculous.

Correction: because they're unable to pay anyone anymore.

Why is dentistry so expensive? It should be illegal to charge so much.

I don’t think it is about “don’t” want to pay. More like can’t pay and the shame that comes with that is overwhelming. I wore braces. My son wore braces. I am glad that both my parents and myself were in a position to see braces all the way through. We were blessed.

Dental care shouldn’t be a luxury and dental insurance coverage is a joke

I know someone who had them on for years. Fortunately, they were finally removed before they did any real damage to her gums and teeth. I agree that braces for most people are medically necessary, and insurance should cover the expense.

I had braces for 4 years. My gums were always inflamed the whole time I had them. After they were removed, I had a wire put in the back of my bottom teeth to keep the teeth in place. (I had that wire in there for over 25 years) I still suffered from inflamed gums that always bled. I never had the wire removed because I couldn't afford to go to the dentist to have it removed. Even though I had insurance, dentists still wanted all money for the procedure paid upfront and then reimburse me later. It got so bad that I had to go to the ER. I found out that I was allergic to the metal from the braces and the wire. The doctor said I was lucky that I didn't die. I ended up getting all my teeth pulled and got dentures. The allergic reaction to the metal literally rotted the teeth out of my mouth.

Poor baby. My babies (8 and 15) are both getting braces on this month. My son has actually had them before for impacted canines. The idea of letting my poor babies suffer like this girl breaks my heart. I hope she has a good life.

Braces are initially expensive AND the maintenance is sn additional cost during and after they are off. It's just on going and that's one thing you have to consider.

I just took my 4yo to the dentist for the first time last week. Based on the x-rays, braces are definitely in her future. Luckily, I've considered this possibility when she was born, and I've been saving tough into my HSA. This girls mouth looks like it's in pain, and I don't want my daughter to go through that because I poorly planned.

I think that it is criminal that orthodontist won’t remove braces unless you’ve made the final payment.
if someone can’t pay in full, then discontinue the treatment plan and remove the braces, but subject someone to have braces in their mouth for years unless they can pay the balance to have them removed in my opinion is criminal!

I had a similar situation when my son got braces half way into his treatment i ended up finding out i had breast cancer and couldn't work work=no money to pay health insurance. i just couldn't stomach making him wait longer bc i ended up with breast cancer(even if it was something out of my control). On the days i could get up and move around without feeling like absolutely death, id door dashed to make that monthly payment to his orthodontist❤

It's not that parents just dont want to pay a dentist anymore, it's because they can't. Even discussing with a dentist doesnt mean they will automatically be able to pay for that. Thats why dental care should be included in healthcare.

Physician: "that'll be $10"
Orthodontist: "that'll be $10K"

I’m so thankful to be in the UK. Now all my boys have a perfect smile, thanks to orthodontic treatment being free for kids. My kids moaned about braces at the time, especially my youngest who had two extra teeth, and needed 4 removed. He had braces for 5 years. Now he has strong and healthy, straight teeth. If only all kids around the world had this chance.

OneLove.
