My top picks for 38 Specials best songs when Max Carl was in the band.

I love 38 Special. The multiple layers of guitars. The southern rock sound perfectly mixed with the AOR appeal. The guitar tones of Jeff and Don. I love every album since the beginning.

When Max Carl joined the band and Don Barnes left . I was skeptical. But a few more spins of their Rock and Roll Strategy album changed all that. The songs still catchy. The guitars more melodic. His voice unique, bluesy, country, contemporary and rocking. A lot of old fans did not feel the same with me.

Their following album Bone Against Steel was even better in my opinion. Maybe it's because I was able to really absorb and analyze the previous album and know what to expect.

Of all the 38 Special albums. The 2 albums with Max Carl seems to be the one that gets the most spin. I feel that a lot of fans are missing out and have not given the 2 albums a fair listen.
