So you are saying I should totally hide under a small wooden table while a 64-floors building collapses on me?

I'm in California and we only have tiny earthquakes, tiny enough that you don't feel them. So I don't why you guys say we are ready when the last biggest earthquake hit in the 1980's, so we aren't all used to earthquakes like that. Now Japan...

I wished to GOD I had seen this before Feb 6, 2023. I crouched in a doorway at the top of a 14 story building that swayed back and forth for 30 minutes after that 7.8 quake hit Turkey. I had broken a rib two days prior. The building moving so violently that I had to hold onto the wall (each side of the door jamb) while that door, which had mirrors on BOTH SIDES, slammed into me over and over and over again. That rib; my head... It's a miracle that door didn't kill me. For those of you who think you can run outside from a building during the event.... you'll never make it. Even if the building does not collapse, you WILL have debris falling from above. The stairs will be crumbling, the walls cracking and falling, and ceilings falling down as well. You best to stay in place until after the moving has subsided. THEN you can leave the building and look for safety (<<< probably the ONLY thing I did right that night).

This evening we were hit by a 6, 4 magnitude quake here in Digos City, Mindanao Island. This is NOT the first time! I would not stay under the table, it is made of glass. I could not hide under the bed, it is full of boxes. Since we live in a one storey concrete house, with strong wooden doorframes, that is my place to take refuge. The quake hits so suddenly, you should have a plan or 2 in your head before it strikes. Here, people have a tendency to run outside. Doorframes are still better than running around like chicken.

Securing stuff that can fall on you is good advice. All the other advice just depends on your situation. There's no perfect way one woman who didn't follow the advice survived because she stood in the window frame she'd have died had she sought cover under a table. Best idea pray to God for his protection.

The thing I like most about this channel is the text, my hearing is good but still some times I find my self in a place where I can't increase the volume and I don't have my headphone.

Meanwhile with buildings with tons of windows...

Now they say to duck against the wall because the collapsing roof creates a triangle and most survivors are found there. This of course is very useful in a concrete building that would crush weak tables.

It's Better To Run Out In An Open Place When Theres An Earthquake. Because If The Building Crumbles, And You're In The House.. You Know What's Gonna Be The Result. But If You're Out On An Open Place There Isn't Going To Be Things Falling On You. My Advice :)

Actually the duck and hold one is outdated aswell, Correct protcol would be going outside to an open area, You should only duck and hold at extreme cases you cant go outside (If you're too high)

Best earthquake advice is be aware of where you are and whats above you. Most deaths are caused by falling debris. Short answer .. it depends on where you are.
