This scene, in its entirety, is probably one of my favorite cutscenes in video game history. It perfectly shows a normal civil man turning into a twisted and insane killer. My favorite part is how as Dimitri is killing the soldiers, it seems as he’s enjoying it. His smile throughout the scene and his creepy laugh at the end just tops it off. They really nailed it here

I decided to go into this game blind, managed to avoid all teasers and trailers etc etc. I was slightly suspicious of how he seemed just... too perfect with very few flaws. I remember speaking to Felix, who called him a wild boar and thinking 'yeah something seems sketchy' and then this scene... oof, it was perfect. The animation, the build up, the reveal, the music, the voice acting. It was perfect.

Byleth’s little glance like “eyo you good?” Makes me chuckle for no reason

I just realized--his crest of Blaiddyd grants him amazing strength, and he crushed a dude's skull with a bare hand and crushed Edelgard's mask with only his foot. While Byleth grasped Dimitri's shoulder, Dimitri still cared deeply for Byleth. For all I know she could've been knocked out dead from being pushed by Dimitri.

I played through Blue Lions as my second run after Golden Deer (because come on, Claude) and when this scene rolled up out of know where I had to take a step back. That smirk at the end was perfect, it just encompassed that underlying brokenness of Dimitri.

When Sothis says “so we’re sending kids into battle eh?” I didn’t really understand it since I’ve played fire emblem games in the past and usually it’s not a problem… but seeing Dimitri slowly but surely go fucking insane, snap someone’s neck with one hand, have both Edelegard and Byleth (who is a god at this point) speechless, and topping it off with evil laughter to boot. That man went through some shit and honestly I can’t blame him for snapping the way that he did.
