In this video I show to you how you can easily get a really nice aggressive guitar metal tone out of freeware VST plugins.
I use this plugin composition on many of my productions (To Punish And Enslave, Devil's Kitchen etc.), sometimes with ReCabinet 3 instead of the GuitarHack impulses.

You've actually achieved a good metal tone that has character. Most people here get an amazing amount of distortion but with no tonal character at and they all sound alike. Your tone here is very heavy and (most important) unique.

Wow! When I heard the test track on it's own panned to the center it sounded kinda fizzy I have to say, but in a mix with two seperate tracks panned l+r that sounded amazing!

FINALY!!!! Man I've been searching forever for someone who actually knows how to make a good metal tone that doesnt sound like completely overdriven crap, thats the only reason I gave up on metal and started producing dubstep hahah BUT NOW IM BACK. Think Im gonna start a new band. hahah

I have a Mac but I was able to get the GuitarHacks stuff and the TS808, but I had to go with the LePou amp sim. it sounds SO GOOD! Thanks a bunch, you just saved me a bunch of hassle and money!

how do you get the noise and hiss out? I've found a fairly decent tone but its ruined by a mountain of hiss. It sounds like my speakers are filled with snakes, very metal snakes.

Thanks, this helped me get started! One issue that I ran into though, was how to filter noise and buzzing in the original signal. I just used Audacity's noise removal and then put a limiter to cut off the rest of the noise before going through the rest of the plugins and this sounds OK, but not great. I'm curious to hear how others solve this problem.

Hey man, much thanks for the tutorial and links. This is by far the best tutorial on freeware amp sims and impulses Ive seen. Just made my own little metal song using what I learned from this tutorial. Granted, it not might be as clear as yours since I quad tracked the guitars and my guitar playing isnt as precise as yours hahah, but this was really helpful in creating a good guitar tone thats not too distorted
