Going to An ICONIC Photo Location and Walking AWAY from It

On today's episode, I go to Vestrahorn, Iceland. It's an iconic landscape photography location. But, rather than taking pictures at the classic spot, I walk entirely in the opposite direct of the iconic photo.

If you want good landscape photos, you go to the iconic photo locations. But, if you want great images, you have to be willing to explore and take risks. You need to be willing to walk in entirely the opposite direction to find something unique. In the end, you'll find that exploring always leads to better photos.

Pro tip, once you get that classic photo, go exploring. Find a way to put your own unique spin on it. Going to classic and iconic photo locations isn't a bad thing. The ability to create something unique in these places is an awesome challenge to set yourselves.

Cool compositions - it goes to show it's always worth returning to a location and exploring new viewpoints and angles, combined with the changing light and weather you can always come up with something new.

a fine collection of images in this video BvS and liked the alternative composition you sought out using the frozen water channel. The final images at the end of the video too were epic

Great video mate. I’m spending 12 hours at those peaks in October and cannot wait.

Beautiful reminder of joyful moments for me as well. Stayed a night at that sandy, grassy land and experienced an aurorae above the mountain peaks - nice composition. Great work, Brendan

Going to Iceland in August for my second visit, first visit we had very low cloud so Vestrahorn and Eystrahorn were not even visible, will be swinging by this year and hoping for some better conditions to get some images. Will aim for the classic, iconic shots to get them in the bag obviously but I’m always on the look out to get something unique if possible 🤞 nice images Brendan 👌🏔️

For the image at 6:08 since you weren't getting the colour that you wanted, did you consider processing it as a B&W? That could make a very powerful image.

some of your best images for awhile there 🙂

I don't know if you do much monochrome. But you should try re-editing a couple of those mid-video images in B&W, especially the one at 6:00. I took the liberty of taking a screen shot and playing with it in Snapseed. I think it'd be unbelievable with a proper monochrome edit.

interesting to see that you are still using the R rather than the R6
