Paying this forward. The lab currently has a bug on the last validation step. If you look at the network inspector, you'll see what's going on. They're comparing the zone of 'lab-3' against some regex. However, the way they retrieve the zone isn't right. The zone value they get is a string literal of command output which happens to also include a warning message. The warning is effectively breaking their ability to get and compare the zone. The warning message is about an old version of Python being used. To fix, run 'yum install -y python3' and run the validator again. That's it! I beat the meta-lab challenge. I hope this saves others hours of frustration.

Yes, only changing the default region(us-central1-c) helped. Stopped all the machines, changed the region, re-executed all the commands provided by the author. Only after that point 7 worked

solved, for those who have the same issue in change default zone section, change it to us-central1-c, it worked for me

Hi! I followed this exactly, but "Check lab-3 has the service account attached" is still failing. I confirmed it is created and has the correct service account attached. I've also tried every zone in the us-west2 region. I've tried setting the default region in the default configuration to match. Any idea what else could possibly be wrong here? (I can't believe how buggy this lab is)
