I (26f) gave birth to twins two months ago and because it’s been such a short time, my body hasn’t been able to bounce back from it, but I’m putting in an effort into getting back into shape again. When I was in high school, I used to get bullied a lot because I was kind of fat. So since then, I’ve been very conscious about my body image and it has taken me a long time to get over that kind of bullying.

I wouldn’t trust SIL until MIL apologized. She never thought her mother was in the wrong before, she doesn’t think it now.

Your MIL is a bully she has not given birth to twins, and now you have had two babies only eight weeks ago her actions are meant to hurt she malicious
She calls bullying and being spiteful a prank she hiding being nasty as a joke if she's the only one laughing its not a joke

Send it to your mother in law with a note that says. You need this more than I do. I know how you feel I had twins 48 years ago. Don't ever put up with anyone disrespecting you.

I would go NC with MIL until she gave a grovelling apology. I would threaten to get her trespassed if she turned up at my door without warning. OP's husband is solid gold but I would guess he has had enough of his mother's bullying.

I don’t blame OP for being offended. The MIL would hate it if OP did something funny based on a trauma.

You shouldn't buy anyone scales as a gift unless they have specifically asked for them. Same for anything typically sensitive to people.

Husband‘s Dad mindset:

„I need to support my wife no matter what but who dare you do the same?!?!“

That MIL wouldn’t have known what hit her if she had done that to my daughter. Zero tolerance for bullying.

"My parents say I'm over-reacting". Which is, presumably, the same attitude they had when you were being bullied about your weight at school. BTW - weight has nothing to do with the bullying. Ass-holes pick on a specific attribute of the person they WANT to bully. If you'd been perfect in every way by whatever standards society measures you by, they'd still have still found SOMETHING to bully you about because, at the end of the day, it's not about YOU; it's about making THEM feel better about their own little, under-achieving, pathetic lives. Think of your MIL as just another one of those people.

To quote Molly McGee to her husband, "Tain't funny, McGee."

Firstly why did op parents always think that op's is too sensitive? Secondary why op's in laws don't apologise, if they love there grand kids so much and dont want to loose there time by being apart from them, so why not apologise and let's cut the problem?they are just feeding there egoes

Why is that nobody speaks of age and maturity of these individuals. As a MIL who is old enough to be OP's mother, and who pulled out an insulting prank OP, should be ashamed of herself for still playing like a teenager. If I were in OP's shoes, I would have publicly called her out, saying "grow up you narcissistic woman and stop acting like a spoiled brat teenager".

OP is very lucky as she got a great husband and partner that takes his vows very seriously. He doesn’t care about his parents anymore as they attacked his wife and children so they’re dead to him now. It’s how a lot of men are raised to be and it’s nice to see for once a good man doing his job protecting his family from this type of shit like they should. Oh OP he doesn’t care about his parents and old family anymore as you and the kids are his family now.

What I can't understand is why there are so many women who put up with their Husband's nasty, vicious mothers for so long. When you are thinking about marrying someone and they have a terrible mother, and he doesn't have your back IMMEDIATELY, that is a huge red flag. He is not worth it, cut your losses and run.

I also say this for men who have terrible MIL's. If your soon to be wife doesn't nip that in the bud IMMEDIATELY, kick her to the curb and keep moving.

Nothing, and no one is worth a lifetime of unhappiness ❤

Mil made it clear that she's a bully and never liked op. I can't understand nor stand people like her that try to hide their hate and bullying as "pranks". The fact that she blasted everything to everyone was her trying to play victim and be outraged that her son defended op. Not surprised that she also became unhinged when denied access to her grandkids because she won't respect op. People like her always go nuts when they actually face consequences and no manipulation or flying monkeys can help them get their way. She doesn't even realize that she's exposing her true colors and feelings about op to her son but gets upset that he stands up for op.

The MIL is way out of line here, across the board. The MIL calling it petty to not be able to see her grandkids, but it wasn't petty of the MIL to post her drama to everyone who had been at the party rather than discuss it with her son and OP in private?
And no one has a "right" to see their grand kids, that access is decided by the parents, period. Blood does not excuse one from bad behavior, though selfish people like MIL here always think they can do anything without consequences. Good for MIL for standing up for herself! Her MIL is being abusive towards her.
When MIL tried to force her way through to get totl the grandkids. But OP should have called the cops on MIL for her behavior.
