A lot of rural areas see incomers as a problem, not one of "us", newbies, city slickers with no skills, driving up real-estate prices, no social/family/historic ties, taking jobs, thinking the area should change to their ideas...

We live in Miami. I’m retired but my wife still works. She works at Baptist hospital which is about 6 miles from our house and it takes her no less than 1 hour to get there in the morning and one hour to get home, believe it or not.
Reason for saying is not money and it’s not jobs, it’s my mother. She’s 88 refuses to move anywhere and I have to take care of her. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Moved two years ago to a 14 acre property and we’re converting it to a homestead with an orchard, vineyard, large chicken coop and run, one acre stocked pond, two streams. It’s a lot of work but left a left coast city and life is much better now. 45 minutes from the nearest urban area and 12 miles from the nearest highway. No chaos and no need for a gym membership.

Glad I can still hang out with you guys! Honestly the single biggest reason I am in a suburban area of a big city instead of a rural compound, is that I don't have enough money to buy the kind of property it would be worth it for me to move to, and I'm not going back to renting. And beyond that I really do like it where I am right now, day to day.

And I have been watching too many Reality Survival videos, and he got me convinced things probably aren't going to get that bad 🤣

But jokes aside, I am keeping my eyes open and there are definitely things that would trigger me to make the move.

Lived in "the city"for under 10% of my life. Never understood why anyone would like to be in the city besides having the goal of making money. I have made some finacial mistakes and will never be rich but I still live the American dream ( or at least my version of it). Enjoy listening to you every chance I can.

I've been living on the edge of town for thirty years. City's moving closer, but I'm not leaving.

getting out of the city would not help these people. they are helpless on their own and thing they are entitled to everything. sheep belong in corals.

Never buy a piece of property with a pond that you share with neighbors, you will thank me later. Never, Freaking, Never,

We just moved into a home we bought a few months ago in the middle of FL. About 11 miles outside the city. That's what we could afford

its real bad when you move rural and have to go back to the cities/ "shitties" you are not used to it so its many times worse than it used to seem to be

We can move because of money. We want land but no money at all, can't get a loan, I don't want a loan in this day and age.

While I agree with the prepping lifestyle I unfortunately have specialized health issues that are making it almost impossible for me to stay in the country. I need specialized eye doctors, the closest to where I live are five hours away. I can't drive so I need to get rides. One of my doctors was in Atlanta about 5.5 hours away. I had to find arbiter doctors because it was becoming impossible to find drivers even with paying gas, food, and paying for time. I'm basically being forced to get back into a town to get good medical care. I'd love to stay rural, but no can do. It's discouraging! If only self driving cars were a reality I would have choices, but not right now.

I can move, but I can't afford anywhere, maybe the Ozarks, but if I think here is bad, the Ozarks are something else.

JJ when you say big city you mean Boston or Manchester? Me and some shipmates bought some land in northern New England. A farming area with a solid Christian community. Being a part of an existing community is so important. Keep chargin.

If all who live in the suburbs move “out”, there won’t be any more areas “out” of the burbs.

I moved from rural (13 acres) to suburbs (1/2 acre). Plenty of issues in the rural areas also. Best move for my family!

Moved from the sardine packed suburbs, and was next to a very crime ridden crap hole socialist major city, out to the country. Wish I would have stayed in the hood. Gas stations, restaurants, hospitals were all close. Stay in the city and suburb, do not move to the country. It is hard work and boring. You will not like it. Just put a garden in your back yard and pretend that you are a farmer.
