THE ADVENTURE BEGINS // No GPS Tour, Part 1 // Triumph Speed Twin solo motorcycle trip

The wait is finally over! This is the first installment of the No GPS Tour 2021, a trip that I took back in June on my Triumph Speed Twin. Over the course of seven days, I rode my motorcycle through Idaho, Wyoming, and Montana with only a map and compass for guidance. On this first day of the trip, we'll ride from Missoula, MT to Elk City, ID via Lolo Pass. There are over 200 miles of pure twisties this day, and we're only getting started!

Come find me at BIKES & BREAKFAST
Clifton, VA on October 17

Dude your videos are on par with revzilla's common tread. You're like one man army. You gonna grow big just keep those quality videos coming.

Love that sign "winding road next 99 miles". I'm in California and there's a road sign that says "winding road next 140 miles" and I can attest that they are serious.

Absolutely love your videos. I''m 67 and have been riding Triumphs since 1972. Bought a new Goldline Street Twin yesterday... "As god is my witness", I have a fold out paper map in front on me as I 'm watching this. Glad to see you've taken off your "training wheels" (GPS)! Sorry, just kidding, LOVE your videos. Keep on keeping on!

Roads look fantastic. I must cross the pond someday and hire a bike.

Brings back memories. I’m a lot older and all we had were paper maps and kind people offering directions until the late 90s early 2000s.

Never used nav. in my life. I'm 54. Picking up my Speed Twin next week. I'll take a picture of your sticker if I see it. I live near Missoula. Next spring I'm doing some road trips.

one correction - you don't have to grant your weather app location services. You can look up weather in cities by name instead ...

Really good video. I like the idea of no gps but I think that you shouldn't avoid asking for directions as it was a common part of old school riding. Generally speaking I recently tend to think that all the things which were suppose to make our lives easier are doing more harm than benefits really - gps including. Sure it's fast and convenient but you end up in constant rush with no chance for surprise or any freedom.

I look at Google maps just to get a sense of direction before a trip. Then if i get lost i look at it again. But the phone stays in my pocket when i ride. I don't like distraction while i ride. I like to focus on enjoying the ride.

Paper maps out of town and GPS for urban addresses for me (aged 57, UK based for your stats). North west USA is certainly on my bucket list. Thunderbolt and Lightfoot country if you've ever seen that film.

With paper you can look at the bigger picture, you can be more creative and maps are just great for touring sunny Scotland. Brilliant videos man.

I like trips without using maps, and little to no plan. I like to study the maps before I leave. Just know the general area going, the major landmarks., cities, rivers, mountains, parks. Then go for a ride. Take the map, take the GPS…but try not to use them till you have settled down for the night or time to find accommodations. Then I enjoy reviewing where I have been and where I want to go next.

I can’t believe I’m just now getting to this content from my home state of Idaho! Great stuff as always. Regarding the uncomfortable seat of the speed twin, I have the same exact bike as you and I think the main problem is the seat angle. It is great when you are under heavy acceleration but otherwise I wish it was flatter. I bought a replacement seat with gel insert, but it doesn’t change the seat angle and I’m afraid it’s still fairly uncomfortable on long rides.

So enjoyable and such pretty roads. This was great!
The Drone shot looking straight down to the river and the road was super spectacular!

Very nice video but you've got to show the hotel rooms. The Speed Twin is now my favorite together with the r9t. Speed twin almost looks better
