As a Civil War buff, and living historian I love the video, please do not jump on the "historically accurate" band wagon. The union soldiers were issued bummers, not kepis(these were private purchase) slouch hats were used in great quantities on both sides, and so where blanket rolls. The issued knapsack was uncomfortable, and cumbersome.

Really nice review. I didn’t know this was out there and I’m thinking already of freeing up some money to get the starter…

Really enjoyed that thanks Stu, lots of interesting points! Excited to get into this game, seems like a great avenue into historicals.

I wonder just how many of these large box sets have been opened, then put on a shelf and just haven’t been partially painted?

Nicely put together Stu, look forward to more especially when you get round to painted these - 2400 muskets, 2399 muskets to all will go stir crazy.

As a few already have pointed out and more will the real downside to this venture is the massive extra outlay needed if you go for the warlord wave 2 and 3 releases. I would have stumped up for the zouave box if they had offered a bit of variety, unit in Kepi, unit in fez, or turban or straw hats (go Wheat Louisiana lads) but £40 for all one type is a non starter. Likewise cavalry, mounted, dismounted and horse holders is another £100, no thanks. Skirmishers look nice but cost the earth and as for the commander models....

As soon as I had the sprue from WI, I broke out the kallistra minis I had on hand and put together a few trial bases, even without a thin shim they are a good match. Next up the pendraken 10mm minis, yes they are smaller but not as bulky as kallistra, so with a shim look okay, but if based together and not mixed, they are unnoticeable amongst the other bases. So its elsewhere to fill in the gaps methinks, .

You also need to add the cost of the Glory Hallelujah book if you did not go all in and want to use BP rules, the little booklet is just a taster not enough.

It will be interesting if this price model (very GW) of a great value starter but relatively high priced expansions will take off enough to see if warlord expand into other periods. I suspect that like so many of their products of late, that poor follow up sales will see them quietly dropping back to pure 28mm

If the size of frontage is in scale with the buildings which would be a first, then I can see the use for the large regiments/battalion’s. However as a building is the same scale as the figures or there about, then it would have to be a skirmish game with a 6feet long table having a scale length of around 250 yards so care should be taken when designing scenario’s.

My only gripe is that the union and Confederate infantry are the same, while the slouch hats were used by the union I would have perfered an all keppi look since I'm to lazy to clip all the heads lol

Good video, thanks. I am using black powder for small battles(well small for the ACW), Fire and fury for medium sized battles and Alter of freedom for the big big battles like gettysburg.

Have a look at the Peter pig 15mms they are on the small side and may fit it.

I was so excited when this Line of minis came out. Then I found out that there is no difference in Uniforms between the two sides. And, each unit contains a mix of headgear rather than just one type. That made me hesitate to committ.

I am using one base to a regiment to refight big battles including Gettysburg. Using three or more bases gives the same frontage as a 28 mm regiment negating the size advantage for big battles on the same size table. I wont be buying wave two or three items due to the insane pricing. Much cheaper metals available from Kallistra in 12mm. I just add a thin shim to the base and you can't tell any difference on the table.

12 mounted Generals per side seems excessive (mind you I'm new to historical epic scale) would've been nicer to see cavalry regiments

One. You just gave me the urge to compulsive buy this set. I hate you. 😆 Two. You're making me want to turn my attention from finishing my website, and break out all my 28mm Confederate Perry's to finish up my Alabama Brigade. I hate you again. 😆🤣 And three. Thanks for putting this unboxing video out. It was drool worthy. I'd hate you a third time but I have to wipe up the drool on my chest. 🤣🤣🤣
