I think we're analyzing and conjecturing the heck out of the Drake thing, but it's simpler. Don't forget that Mayo (and Eliot) was front and center for The Destruction of Mac. After they drafted Drake, think he promised himself, "I will not make the mistakes Bill made, " and they've overcompensated ever since--esp. once they saw the OL may be sketchy. I don't believe they EVER planned for Drake to see real time or actually compete to start. They went full bubble wrap, but did so thinking, "Jacoby will be 'okay'" and get us through this season." Now, they realize 1) he may not and 2) you know, Drake isn't a baby/made of glass. It was a simple overreaction to what Bill did with Mac--I really think that's the genesis of all of this.
