Pam here….when my Mother-in-law was alive, she bought those spiral calendars. I started buying her the weekly crossword ones, but she wrote something in it everyday…lunch with friends, her travels, appts and things do be done. Her last day was spent with me…we got home she documented it….said “Dreat day!….she passed saddening of pulmonary embolism not even an hour later. Looking over her calendar house books that she keet…was like spending another great day with her!

What an amazing place to take your dog for a walk. I’m in England and it was so different from our”woods” with the strange shapes of the trees and other things growing and then water. BUT then I saw the notice about bears and now a reply talking about cougars. Somehow paradise vanished and I was looking for things in the undergrowth!! I’m watching before going to bed and surely I shall have nightmares about both of you❤ You don’t seem to be concerned and I suppose probably any wild animals keep out of sight during the day. I also took comfort that on that occasion at least you had someone with you taking pictures. You are so well organised and sensible that I don’t think that you’d take too big a risk especially with the adorable little one with you, but do please be careful. It’s none of my business really but I have only just found you and would like to see more videos - you have a way about you that is easy to like and to be interested in how you are doing. Does your cat have access to woods or is she a house cat? Anyway, Jen, look after yourself and your two fur babies and I’ll see you in the next one.
I’d forgotten about the house journal frightening myself about those woods - it really is something I should do. At 72 I am living alone for the first time in my life as my elderly mum and I had been together for a long time. She died last June and I’m not coping well so doing something practical will help me. I don’t even have my cherished cat left to love as she died in October at the grand age of almost twenty years. I greatly admire you for your positive mindset. I do have chronic health issues but we all still have to play the cards we are dealt however difficult that may be.

YES! I do that. I also keep a spiral-bound address book, with contact information for people like plumbers, electricians, contractors, painters, doctors, dentists and computer-repair specialists, and organizations like the bank, gas co, library, newspaper subscription desk and my favorite thrift store. It's handy to have everything in one place.

Great idea! I have renewal dates in my budget but a house journal is much more inclusive. I also have a house "map" which describes the contents of each room in the house. This is for my children's reference.

Hi, Jen! Just found your channel a couple of weeks ago, and just wanted to say that I absolutely love your videos! I’m a single (divorced 7 years ago) working mom of a teenage son and two cat babies, in my early 50s. I was awarded the marital home and with it all the responsibility for its upkeep. It’s been a huge learning curve, as the house is now 26 years old and many things have needed major fixes that I’ve had to handle myself with not much previous experience. I have kept a journal for years, write in it every day…also next to it I have the year before and have a lot of reading of what I did on that day last year…very useful and entertaining…

Ah, so that's what it's called. Thank you! For the past few years I've kept a spreadsheet of things that need doing (e.g., replacing the air conditioner filter, etc.) and then transfer to paper in 2-week increments. I called it a "to-do" list but I like the name "house journal" much better.
