It's almost impossible not to think about previously created characters when creating new characters because any new character is inspired by one from film, TV, video games, comics, novels, etc. Your latest super spy might be inspired by Jason Bourne or Ethan Hunt, your latest bounty hunter might be inspired by Ghost Rider or Luther, and your latest action hero might be inspired by Sara Connor, Ellen Ripley, or Lara Croft. Even if it is original, it still stems from a source.

A character does not have to change or be likeable. Just be relatable. Although I personally like characters that do change, but they don't have to

I don't think characters develop themselves. Yes, the arc is often evident from the set-up, but to me the intricacies of the arc requires A LOT of thought (probably the most thought of everything in the story), since it's so difficult to get _just_ right.

Want to make great characters? Meet/know great/interesting/dangerous real people in real life, take the best parts of them and so on, meet someone who is crazy and then you realise it’s you (Murphy) it’s you “I’m talking in the man in mirror, make change”

I could keep going but hey too busy being nuts, wanna get nuts, let’s get nuts

Create a psycological profile, and traits, ideals, bonds and flaws.
Let the character develop itself.

1. What is the problem.

2. How does the problem create a mission in his life?

3. How does he change?

How does a writer cater to PC? By becoming an ESL speaker. It starts with a character who lets himself develop until she is not longer able to control himself leading to his climax where her character arc makes him come to a revealing denouement informing her theme. All of this interspersed with hems and haws because the writer has to edit himself to an unnatural degree.

I do, to an extent, think of other characters but I'm always aware of making them carbon copies.

Back to the Future and Paddington bear, the main characters do not change.
